FreeVibrant Shaders is a free, vanilla-like shader pack for Java, inspired by Vibrant Visuals and built for Iris. It adds shadows while staying close to the familiar look, and Modrinth files it under the potato performance tier. It runs on the player's side only, and dedicated hosts do not support it.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.10.
Why it exists
Takkkom made this pack because many shader packs carry strict licences. Some forbid bundling into modpacks, and others demand credits when they allow it. FreeVibrant is unlicensed, so modpack authors can include it, publish screenshots, or modify it into a new pack without asking.
- Colorwheel support is done.
- Clouds and PBR support are not done yet.
- Distant Horizons support is not done yet.
Installation
- 1.Install Iris, following the shader install guide if you need the steps.
- 2.Place the pack's .zip in the shaderpacks folder.
- 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select FreeVibrant Shaders.
Your graphics driver must support OpenGL 3.3 or higher. If the pack does not appear or fails to load, the shaders not working fix covers the usual causes.
Trade-offs
The feature set is narrow next to long-established packs. There are no clouds, no PBR, and no Distant Horizons support yet. Bedrock cannot run Iris, so this pack is Java only. Takkkom lists no known issues.
Questions about FreeVibrant Shaders.
4 questions
Does FreeVibrant Shaders work with OptiFine?
No. The pack is built for Iris and does not support OptiFine. Install Iris, put the .zip in the shaderpacks folder, and select it under Video Settings, then Shader Packs.
Can I include FreeVibrant Shaders in a modpack?
Yes. The pack is unlicensed, and Takkkom says there are no special restrictions on modpacks, screenshots or modified packs. The one request is not to reupload it to other hosting services under the name FreeVibrant Shaders.
Does FreeVibrant Shaders work with Distant Horizons?
Not yet. Distant Horizons support is on Takkkom's list of unfinished work, along with clouds and PBR. Colorwheel support is already done.
Is FreeVibrant the same as Vibrant Visuals?
No. FreeVibrant is a separate Java shader pack for Iris that takes inspiration from Vibrant Visuals. It cannot run on Bedrock, because Iris is a Java mod.
