Kefir's Flashlight is a vanilla-like shader pack for Minecraft Java that replaces the normal lighting engine with true darkness and a flashlight beam you aim with the camera. It runs on Iris and is listed in the potato performance tier. Shaders work on the player's own side only, so there is nothing to add to a dedicated host.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris: Minecraft 1.19 to 1.21.11.

Effects and settings

Most flashlight mods place a light block wherever you look. This pack does something different. It simulates a volumetric beam that projects from your camera into 3D space, interacts with fog and fades over distance. The result leans toward atmospheric horror.

  • Beam geometry with core size, halo width and intensity set for each layer, from a tight laser pointer to a wide floodlight.
  • Volumetric density, which controls how visible the beam is in the air.
  • Range and falloff for the maximum reach of the light.
  • Light color, adjustable for each layer.
  • Horror settings, with a flicker toggle and an ambient brightness control for how dark shadows get.

Installing the pack

  1. 1.Install Iris on Fabric or NeoForge. The shader install guide covers the loader step.
  2. 2.Place the pack's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder.
  3. 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select Kefir's Flashlight.
  4. 4.Use Shader Options to tune the beam. If the pack does not load, try fixing shaders that are not working.

Questions about Kefir's Flashlight.

4 questions

How do I install Kefir's Flashlight?

Install Iris, put the pack's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder, then open Video Settings and Shader Packs and pick it. Iris runs on Fabric or NeoForge. Once it is selected, the Shader Options menu lets you adjust the beam, range, color and darkness.

Does Kefir's Flashlight work on Mac and Linux?

The pack is written in modern GLSL 330 Core, which is meant to keep it compatible with M1, M2 and M3 Macs and modern Linux drivers. Results still depend on your own graphics setup, so treat this as the stated intent.

Can I change the flashlight color and size?

Yes. Shader Options lets you set core size, halo width and intensity for each beam layer, plus a color for each layer. You can also change range, falloff and volumetric density, toggle flickering, and set ambient brightness to control how dark shadows are.

Does Kefir's Flashlight work on Bedrock?

No. The pack is for Java and needs Iris, which is a Java mod that Bedrock cannot run. Its Iris support covers Minecraft 1.19 to 1.21.11.
