HighFrames+ is a vanilla-like shader pack for Minecraft Java that runs on Iris and OptiFine. It builds on the original HighFrames with reflective water, refined lighting and a cinematic finish, and Modrinth files it under the potato performance tier. It is client-side only, so nothing is installed on a server.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2.
What it changes
The pack keeps the blocky vanilla look and layers restrained effects over it. Water reflects its surroundings and moves with more detailed waves. Shadows and bloom are refined, and colour grading is balanced for a cleaner image.
- Reflective water with improved wave animation
- Soft bloom and improved shadow quality
- Optional cinematic letterbox for a film-style frame
- Separate shader files for the Overworld, the Nether and the End
How to install HighFrames+
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft Java setup. The shader install guide covers the loader step.
- 2.Download the .zip from the Modrinth page.
- 3.Place the .zip in the shaderpacks folder.
- 4.In Iris, open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select HighFrames+. OptiFine uses its own shader menu.
If the pack fails to appear or the screen turns black, the shader troubleshooting guide lists the usual causes.
Trade-offs
This is a pack for smooth frame rates, not screenshot-grade visuals. The effects are deliberately subtle, and the low-end and mid-range focus is the creator's own positioning, not a measured promise for your hardware. If you want motion effects from the same creator, MotionBlur+ is a separate pack.
Questions about HighFrames+.
4 questions
How do I install HighFrames+?
Install Iris or OptiFine, download the .zip from Modrinth, and place it in the shaderpacks folder. Then open Video Settings and Shader Packs in Iris, select HighFrames+, and apply it. OptiFine users pick the pack from its own shader menu.
Does HighFrames+ work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes. The pack targets both loaders on Minecraft Java Edition, and Modrinth lists a release for each. Neither build requires any extra dependency, so the shader loader and the pack .zip are all you need.
Is HighFrames+ good for low-end PCs?
The creator built it for low-end and mid-range systems, and Modrinth files it under the potato tier. Results still depend on your hardware, so treat that as the intended target rather than a guarantee of specific frame rates.
Does HighFrames+ work on Bedrock Edition?
No. HighFrames+ is a Java Edition shader pack that depends on Iris or OptiFine, and both are Java Edition mods. Bedrock Edition uses a different format and cannot load this pack.
