I Am Not Okay is a cursed shader pack by xsoras that recreates intoxication as a single full-screen post-processing pass. It runs on Iris and OptiFine for Java Edition, on the player's own machine only. The I Am Not Okay shader leaves world lighting alone and bends the final image instead.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.7.3 to 26.3.

Effects on screen

Every effect is animated from the shader's internal time counter, so the view keeps shifting with no input from the player. The result stays playable but never settles.

  • Camera sway: layered sine-wave drift, horizontal and vertical.
  • World tilt: a slow rotation that leans the screen side to side.
  • Lens distortion: barrel warping outward from the center.
  • Double vision: an offset ghost image blended over the scene.
  • Chromatic separation: red and blue channels sampled from different positions.
  • Desaturation with warm tint, an animated vignette for tunnel vision, and gentle brightness pulsing.

Installing the pack

The pack needs a shader loader. The shader install guide covers the details, and the shader troubleshooting guide helps if the pack does not appear.

  1. 1.Install Iris (on Fabric or NeoForge) or OptiFine.
  2. 2.Place the pack's .zip in the shaderpacks folder.
  3. 3.In Iris, open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select I Am Not Okay.

Trade-offs

The single screen-space pass keeps rendering cost very low, and Modrinth files the pack under potato. The price is scope. Shadows, water, sky and materials are untouched, and the included files expose no in-menu options, so you cannot dial the effect down.

Questions about I Am Not Okay.

4 questions

How do I install the I Am Not Okay shader?

Install Iris on Fabric or NeoForge, or install OptiFine. Put the pack's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder, then pick it in the loader's shader menu. In Iris that menu is under Video Settings, then Shader Packs. The effect starts immediately once selected.

Does I Am Not Okay work with Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. Both loaders are listed for the pack, and the newest release for each requires no extra dependency. It is a standard composite pass written in GLSL 1.20, so loaders that support composite shader stages can run it.

Does this shader change lighting, shadows or water?

No. It distorts only the final rendered image with sway, tilt, lens warp, double vision and color separation. World lighting, shadows, water, sky rendering and materials stay as they are, which is why it reads as vanilla-like with a glitch layer on top.

Is I Am Not Okay light enough for low-end PCs?

Modrinth lists it in the potato tier, and the pack describes a single-pass, screen-space design with very low rendering complexity. That suggests a small cost, though actual frame rates depend on your hardware and which loader you use.
