PSX Shader NB is a PlayStation 1 style shader pack for Minecraft Java, running on Iris and OptiFine. It is a fork of ckosmic's Minecraft PSX Shader. It is a visual pack for the player's own install, with no server component.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.21.11.

What this fork changes

The retro look comes from ckosmic's original shader, which mimics the feel of PS1 graphics. This fork keeps that look and makes two targeted changes.

  • No-bounce vertex fix. The vertex transformation now uses the standard model-view multiplication, which removes the bouncing effect when you move.
  • Dynamic hand light. Torches, lanterns and other held light sources now light the world continuously as you walk, instead of only updating when you place or break blocks.
  • Hand light uses linear distance falloff that matches vanilla placed light, and it works from both the main hand and the off hand.
  • The light applies to terrain, entities, water, the hand and basic geometry.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Iris or OptiFine for your Minecraft release. The guide on installing shaders for Java and Bedrock covers the loader side.
  2. 2.Place the pack's .zip file in your shaderpacks folder.
  3. 3.Select PSX Shader NB in your loader's shader menu. In Iris, open Video Settings, then Shader Packs.
