Vividness

A color grading shader that lifts brightness, saturation and contrast while leaving vanilla visuals alone. It adds no heavy effects, so the cost is small.

Vividness is a vanilla-like shader pack by kumsung that does one job, color grading. It runs on Iris and OptiFine for Java and is loaded on the player's side only.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.21.10.

What it changes

Skies get brighter, grass and foliage get livelier, and oceans read deeper. A warm color temperature keeps the result comfortable rather than harsh.

  • Brightness up 8% for clearer visibility.
  • Saturation up 25% for more vibrant colors.
  • Contrast up 12% for sharper visuals.
  • Boosted blue and green tones for skies, water and plants.

Installation

You need a shader loader first, so set up Iris or OptiFine, then add the pack.

  1. 1.Get the shader pack .zip from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Place the file in the .minecraft/shaderpacks folder.

Performance and tweaking

Only color grading runs, so the pack is extremely lightweight and is described as having no impact on frame rate. It is also said to work with most resource packs.

The grading values are exposed in shaders/composite.fsh. Edit the numbers in adjustBrightness (1.08), adjustSaturation (1.25) and adjustContrast (1.12) to dial the look up or down.

Questions about Vividness.

4 questions

How do I install Vividness?

Install Iris or OptiFine, then put the Vividness .zip file in the .minecraft/shaderpacks folder. No extra files or companion mods are listed as required.

Does Vividness work with Iris and OptiFine?

Yes. Both loaders are supported, and the newest release lists no required dependencies for either. Iris is used on Fabric or NeoForge. Install whichever loader you prefer, then select Vividness in the shader menu. The pack is for Java only, and Bedrock cannot run these loaders.

Is Vividness good for low-end PCs?

Likely, since the pack only applies color grading with no heavy effects, and its description says it has no impact on frame rate. Modrinth tags it as low impact. Actual results still depend on your hardware and the other mods you run.

Can I change how strong the colors are?

Yes. Open shaders/composite.fsh inside the pack and edit the adjustBrightness, adjustSaturation and adjustContrast values. The defaults are 1.08, 1.25 and 1.12. Lower numbers give a subtler look, and higher numbers push the colors harder.
