Proximity Voice Chat and Proximity Text Chat is the closest Bedrock answer to the Simple Voice Chat mod on Java. Players hear each other as they walk close, with 3D positional audio, and text chat can be limited by distance as well. It ships as a .mcaddon for Bedrock only, and the voice call itself runs in a browser or an Android app.

What it adds
- Directional audio, so you hear a player from the side where they stand.
- Calls on iOS and Android through the browser, plus a dedicated app.
- Proximity text chat with commands such as /distance, /proximity, /tc-help and /lang (ja, en or zh).
- Optional packs: a standard behavior pack with a settings panel, a server behavior pack that keeps the call alive while the host is offline, and a resource pack showing talking and muted icons above heads.
How to start a call
Import the add-on first if you want the extra packs, following the guide to installing add-ons on Bedrock. Install only one of the two behavior packs. The website-only setup needs no add-on at all.
- 1.Pick your settings on the creator's setup site and press start.
- 2.On 1.21.60 or later, the world owner must enable Websockets Enabled. Also turn off Require Encrypted WebSockets.
- 3.Run the displayed command in the world. If you are on a phone, join the call first.
- 4.Everyone else opens the connect page and enters the Room ID and Gamertag. Typing /name in-game shows both.
Known issues
The trade-off is an external call: everyone connects outside Minecraft. If audio cuts out or you hear distant players, leave and reconnect. Leave any Discord call before joining from the same phone. On iPhone, stop the device from sleeping, and if the microphone fails after opening Minecraft, join the call in the browser first, then reopen the game. Android players should use the app.

How do I get proximity voice chat on Bedrock?

Does proximity text chat need Beta APIs?
Yes. Proximity text chat requires Beta APIs to be enabled, and so does the server behavior pack. Voice chat through the website alone does not need the add-on, and the newest build lists no other requirements.
