Bedrock Voice Chat is a bedrock voice chat addon that brings proximity voice to Bedrock Dedicated Servers. It has three parts: a server-side behavior pack that reports player positions, a voice server written in Rust, and a companion app that players run on Windows 10/11, iOS or Android. The stated goal is feature parity with Simple Voice Chat on Java, with a better experience for Bedrock players.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.132 to 26.50.

What it adds

  • Proximity chat with positional audio, plus group chats for persistent audio.
  • Muting, deafening and an individual volume slider per player.
  • Noise suppression, audio amplification and voice detection.
  • Encrypted voice over the Opus codec, with WSAPI and ASIO input support.
  • Audio recording to separate tracks, with timecode support for later processing.

How to install Bedrock Voice Chat

The CurseForge download is the behavior pack for the dedicated server, shipped as a .mcaddon. The voice server and the companion app are separate pieces, and the project wiki covers setting them up. Server operators must have the pack running before anyone can connect to a voice instance.

  1. 1.Download the latest behavior pack (a zip or mcpack) and upload it, unextracted, to the root behavior_packs folder of your server.
  2. 2.Do not place it in the worlds folder, since that can expose the voice server endpoint and API keys in public world downloads.
  3. 3.If your pack has no embedded token and address, add bvc_access_token, bvc_server and bvc_debug to config/default/variables.json.
  4. 4.In config/default/permissions.json, allow the modules @minecraft/server-gametest, @minecraft/server, @minecraft/server-ui, @minecraft/server-admin, @minecraft/server-editor and @minecraft/server-net.
  5. 5.Enable the pack in the world's behavior packs file with the UUID 6fb24263-357a-407c-aebe-681f50b2de50, then start the server.

Trade-offs

This is an infrastructure project. You host a voice server, edit server config files and ask every player to install an app. The repository labels the current releases as beta. If the pack misbehaves after setup, the add-on troubleshooting guide covers the common causes.

Questions about Bedrock Voice Chat.

4 questions

Does Bedrock Voice Chat work on a Bedrock Dedicated Server?

Yes, that is its target. It needs the server-side behavior pack to read player positions, a running Bedrock Voice Chat server, and the companion app on each player's device. Operators must have the pack installed and running before players can connect.

Does Bedrock Voice Chat need Beta APIs?

Yes. Beta APIs must be enabled for the world, and permissions.json must allow the listed @minecraft/server modules, including server-net.

Which devices can use Bedrock Voice Chat?

The companion app runs on Windows 10/11, iOS and Android. Players on those platforms can join proximity and group chats, with controls for muting, deafening and per-player volume.

Is Bedrock Voice Chat the same as Simple Voice Chat?

No. Simple Voice Chat is a Java mod. Bedrock Voice Chat aims for feature parity with it but is a separate project for Bedrock Dedicated Servers, built around a Rust voice server and a companion app.
