Yes, sometimes. Mojang says each store that sells Minecraft sets its own return policy, and that games bought on Minecraft.net or the Microsoft and Xbox store are generally eligible for a refund within 14 days of purchase. Facts were read from Mojang's help pages on 20 October 2026.
When Mojang refunds a purchase
Mojang's refund page (text last edited 13 March 2026) does not run its own refund desk for game sales. It sends you to the store where you paid. The one time frame it gives is the 14-day window for Minecraft.net, Microsoft Store and Xbox purchases, and it words that as "generally", not as a promise.
Microsoft Support adds a limit. It says digital goods such as apps, games, add-on content and subscriptions "aren't refundable unless the offer or applicable law states that you're eligible". Read the 14-day window as the usual case, not a right. If you are unsure which purchase you made, how much Minecraft costs on PC and what the Java and Bedrock bundle includes show what each price covers.
How to request a refund by store
| Store | What Mojang's page points to |
|---|---|
| Minecraft.net, Microsoft Store, Xbox | Microsoft Refund Policy, generally 14 days from purchase |
| Nintendo | Nintendo Return & Exchange Policy |
| Apple App Store | Request a Refund for Apps |
| Google Play | Google Play Refund Policy |
| PlayStation | PlayStation Refund Policy |
| Steam | Steam Refund Policy |
For Microsoft purchases, Mojang describes three steps: open your Microsoft order history, sign in, choose Request a Return next to the item, then pick a refund option. Only eligible items show that option. Microsoft Support routes games through its Xbox refund page for digital games instead, where you give a reason and submit.
Microsoft says a request may take 72 hours to process, and a granted refund is generally applied to the original payment option within 3 to 5 business days. After a refund, Mojang says you lose access to the returned product.
What is not refundable
- Minecraft Realms. Mojang calls it a subscription that is "not typically eligible for full or partial refunds". If Mojang caused you to lose access to a Realm and Minecraft Support cannot fix it, you may be eligible.
- A single item inside a bundle. Microsoft Support says single items from within a bundle cannot be returned.
- Purchases from another retailer. Microsoft says it will not accept returns of products bought elsewhere.
- Official Minecraft Shop gift cards. The shop's policy says they cannot be returned or refunded. Most physical items there carry a 30-day money back guarantee, which is separate from game refunds.
Marketplace content and Minecoins
Mojang's refund page does not name Minecoins or Marketplace content, and its two Minecoin purchase pages (edited 25 February and 12 March 2026) state no refund rule. The Minecraft.net one only lists the refund article as further help. The nearest written rule is Microsoft's: add-on content is not refundable unless the offer or applicable law says otherwise. Treat a Marketplace refund as unlikely and check the terms of the store you paid through. See what Marketplace Pass is and how it differs from Minecoins before buying.
What you lose after a refund
Mojang says that after a refund you lose access to the returned product, so back up your worlds first with the world backup guide.
What to do if your refund is refused
The sources give limited routes. Microsoft says online returns are not available in all markets and tells you to contact Sales support if you cannot request one online. For a Realm you cannot reach, Mojang says to contact Minecraft Support. Microsoft also notes that its return information does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and the Minecraft Shop says EU consumers keep a statutory withdrawal right. Beyond that, the sources say nothing about appeals or exceptions, and we have not tried a refund request ourselves.
