A Minecraft add-on is a file for Bedrock Edition that changes how Minecraft plays through a behavior pack, a resource pack or both: new mobs, items and mechanics from one, new textures and models from the other. Add-ons run on Bedrock only, and Java Edition cannot load them.
This page is built from the creator pages of six add-ons we list on CurseForge and MCPEDL, read on 9 October 2026. We did not install or play any of them. For steps, use the Bedrock add-on install guide.
Behavior packs, resource packs and add-ons compared
| Term | What it changes | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Resource pack | Textures, models and other visuals | Better Foliage can be used as a texture pack alone |
| Behavior pack | Added features such as new plants, food and drops | Better Foliage's behavior pack adds apples, shrubs and Nether roots |
| Add-on | Both packs shipped together | More Ores says both the behavior pack and the resource pack are needed |

The pairing matters in practice. Better Foliage's creator says the texture pack works alone, and that the behavior pack should be added for the extra features. More Ores works the other way: its creator says a download of both packs is necessary for it to work correctly.

Add-ons usually arrive as a .mcaddon or .mcpack file, which imports when opened with Minecraft. Behavior and resource packs are then switched on per world, in the world settings under Behavior Packs and Resource Packs. If you only want to change looks, the resource pack guide covers that.
How add-ons differ from Java mods
The formats are not interchangeable: a CurseForge Bedrock project is Bedrock only, and Java uses a different format. Our Java mod listing and Java vs Bedrock comparison cover the other side.
Some add-ons deliberately echo Java mods. Dynamic Light's creator describes it as dynamic light "just like Java's Optifine", and Better Foliage's creator says it was inspired by Java foliage mods. Some add-ons also ask for extra steps. Dynamic Light, for example, moves a torch to the offhand with the command /function handtorch in manual mode.

How add-ons differ from Marketplace content
Our sources describe add-ons as files published by creators on CurseForge and MCPEDL. They say nothing about in-game Marketplace content, its pricing or its rules, so we make no comparison and will not guess one.
Where add-ons run
Our sources confirm two routes. On Windows, a double-click on the file imports it, or the pack folders go under %appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock\users\shared\games\com.mojang, in behavior_packs and resource_packs. On phones and tablets, you open the file with Minecraft.

Where to find add-ons
Our Bedrock add-on listing holds every add-on page we list. The six above come from two sites. On CurseForge, read 9 October 2026, Better Foliage shows 2,485,205 downloads, True Weapons 1,517,660, More Ores 1,626,604 and Alylica's Dungeons 891,370. Otherworldly is on MCPEDL with 173,069 downloads. We do not compare counts across platforms.

Range is wide. True Weapons adds knives, katanas and war fans, and Alylica's Dungeons adds over 40 monsters from Minecraft Dungeons by its creator's count. None of the six lists a source repository or a licence file, and CurseForge lists no licence for the first four. Better Foliage's page forbids reusing its textures or code except for personal use. Read the creator's terms before sharing a pack. If you want to make your own, start with the add-on creation guide.
