Chunklock is a Minecraft data pack that locks every chunk in a world except the one you start in. To open the next chunk you pay a cost in items, and the biome of that chunk decides which items. It needs no resource pack, and it must be present on the server for multiplayer.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.20 to 1.21.11.
How Chunklock plays
Your world begins as a single chunk. Every step outward costs biome-specific items, so you have to decide which biomes to open first and gather efficiently to keep expanding. The pack works on any seed, since it only adds rules on top of the world you already have. It has been tested alongside Skyblock Infinite for players who like to stack challenges.
Installing Chunklock
- 1.Download the .zip from Modrinth.
- 2.Put it in saves/<world>/datapacks, or add it with the Data Packs button when creating a new world.
- 3.In an existing world, run /reload or restart so the pack loads.
- 4.On a dedicated server, use the datapacks folder of the server world.
New to the folder layout? The guide on installing data packs walks through it.
Commands
Every command is a /trigger run by a player with OP permission.
- /trigger ChunkDifficulty changes the difficulty, and only works in a fresh world with no chunks unlocked.
- /trigger ChunkSpreadPlayers scatters players across a 1000 x 1000 area, respecting teams, and sets their spawns there.
- /trigger ChunkHideUnlockTitle and /trigger ChunkShowUnlockTitle turn the unlock title off or on per player.
- /trigger ChunkReroll rerolls a chunk for free on easy difficulty, while you face it up close.
- /trigger ChunkUninstall removes Chunklock from loaded chunks. Leftover borders and items can be cleared with /kill @e[tag=chunklock] nearby.
Multiplayer and known limits
Chunklock supports cooperative and competitive multiplayer.
How We Made Chunklock
Questions about Chunklock.
4 questions
How do I install Chunklock?
Drop the downloaded .zip into saves/<world>/datapacks, or add it from the Data Packs button while creating a world. In an existing world, run /reload or restart. On a dedicated server, place it in the server world's datapacks folder instead.
Does Chunklock need a resource pack?
No. Chunklock needs no resource pack, so it works in single-player and multiplayer without extra files for players. Players on Optifine or Lunar Client may still see rendering problems, which are listed as known conflicts rather than resource pack requirements.
Can I use Chunklock on a multiplayer server?
Yes. The pack must be installed on the server, and players need nothing extra. Commands are /trigger entries that only OP players can run.
How do I remove Chunklock from a world?
Run /trigger ChunkUninstall. It only clears locked chunks that are currently loaded, so stand near any leftover borders or items and run /kill @e[tag=chunklock] to delete them.
