Hopo Better Underwater Ruins replaces Minecraft's small ocean ruins with a wider set of structures: expanded ruins scattered across the seafloor, fossil sites for the game's ocean archaeology, and hidden underwater cities in deep water patrolled by several kinds of drowned. It ships as a vanilla data pack or as a Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge mod, with every distribution currently reaching the same 26.2 ceiling.

What changes in the ocean

Vanilla's ocean ruins are small clusters of stone or sandstone with a couple of loot barrels. This pack adds bigger, more varied ruin layouts, plus new fossil and archaeology sites that keep the brush-and-loot mechanic from vanilla ocean ruins. The centerpiece is a set of hidden underwater cities built deep in the ocean, each with distinct rooms and several drowned variants standing in for a single generic mob.

  • Expanded small ocean ruin variants with new loot and layouts
  • Fossil and archaeology sites using the vanilla suspicious sand mechanic
  • Underwater cities with multiple distinct room types
  • Several drowned variants populating the new structures
  • No required dependency mod on any of the four distributions

Installing it as a data pack or a mod

As a data pack, place the downloaded file in the world's datapacks folder for singleplayer, or the equivalent folder on a server's world save, then run /reload or restart. As a mod, install the matching loader (Fabric Loader, Forge, or NeoForge) and drop the jar into the mods folder. Neither route needs an extra dependency mod, since the project lists none on any format.

Version and format support

The data pack, Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds all reach version 26.2, an unusually even spread since Forge and NeoForge builds on most multi-loader projects lag behind Fabric. Support goes back to 1.16.5, with releases across most major versions in between. The mod jar builds need the pack on the server to generate the structures; a player connecting without it installed still explores whatever the server has already generated.

Questions about Hopo Better Underwater Ruins.

5 questions

What does Hopo Better Underwater Ruins add to Minecraft?

It expands the game's small ocean ruins into bigger structures, adds fossil and archaeology sites that use the vanilla suspicious sand mechanic, and adds hidden underwater cities with varied rooms patrolled by several drowned variants instead of one generic type.

How do I install Hopo Better Underwater Ruins?

Drop the data pack file into your world's datapacks folder (or the server's world save) and run /reload or restart. For the mod version, install Fabric Loader, Forge, or NeoForge first, then place the matching jar in your mods folder. No dependency mod is required either way.

Which Minecraft version does Hopo Better Underwater Ruins support?

The data pack, Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds all currently reach 26.2, with support going back to 1.16.5 across most major versions in between. Check the Modrinth version list for the exact build tied to your target version.

Does Hopo Better Underwater Ruins need any other mods?

No. The project lists no required dependency on the data pack, Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge distribution, so it works on a fresh install of any of the four formats.

Does Hopo Better Underwater Ruins work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The structures generate from the server or world save, so a dedicated server needs the pack installed to generate them, while a connecting player does not need anything installed client-side to explore what the server has already generated.
