Seasons Data Pack changes the feel of a vanilla Java Edition world by moving biomes through summer, fall, winter, and spring over time. Leaves tint toward gold and red in fall, winter weather can freeze rivers and cover plants, spring brings greener foliage with flowering patches, and savannas get a wetter summer season.

The pack runs fully on the server side, so players do not need to install a matching resource pack. That makes it a better fit for a shared world or server than a client-only visual tweak, but the source notes that multiplayer worlds need enough server and network headroom for the extra season tracking.

What Changes In-Game

  • Seasonal biome variants affect leaf color, grass tone, sky color, snow, ice, and some weather behavior.
  • Winter can turn rain to snow, freeze rivers and some oceans, and cover small plants and flowers.
  • Spring restores greener foliage with patches of pink flowering leaves.
  • Savanna biomes shift between dry seasons and a vibrant summer rain season.
  • Seasons advance from world time, with the default season length set to 20 in-game days.

Install Notes

  1. 1.Download the Seasons zip from the Modrinth project page.
  2. 2.For a new single-player world, open the Data Packs screen while creating the world and drag the zip file into Minecraft.
  3. 3.For an existing world, copy the zip file into that world's datapacks folder, then close and reopen the world.
  4. 4.For a server, place the zip in the world's datapacks folder and restart the server.

A regular reload is not enough for activation because the pack relies on experimental world generation features. Minecraft will show an Experimental Features warning when the world loads with the pack enabled.

Compatibility And Conflicts

  • Supported Minecraft version from the latest Modrinth file: 1.21.5.
  • Client-side install: optional. Server-side install: required.
  • No resource pack is required.
  • World generation mods and other datapacks that use experimental world generation features are likely conflict risks.
  • Commands that depend on biome state or world time can behave differently. Use time add rather than time set when adjusting time in a Seasons world.

Questions about this entry.

  • Does Seasons Data Pack need a resource pack?

No. The pack runs server-side and does not require a resource pack.

  • Can Seasons Data Pack be removed safely?

The source warns against removing it from a world because affected biomes can be replaced with Plains.

  • Can it be used on multiplayer servers?

Yes, but it must be installed on the server, and the source notes that multiplayer use adds server and network load.
