Beyond Depth is an exploration modpack for Minecraft Java that runs on Forge and works for solo play or friends on multiplayer. It packs more than 400 mods into a survival-first adventure with tougher bosses, new dimensions and little reliance on quests. Downloads on CurseForge pass three million.

Loaders and versions

  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1.

What's included

The pack reworks the world instead of layering extras on top. New biomes and structures arrive with revamped Nether and End dimensions, and vanilla structures, bosses and features are overhauled. Three dimensions anchor the exploration: the Undergarden, a dark subterranean world, Deeper and Darker with its ancient structures, and the Voidscape, a corrupted realm of floating islands.

  • 35+ bosses and 300+ new mobs, with fights drawn from Mowzie's Mobs and L_ender's Cataclysm.
  • 500+ new structures, plus custom recipes and light quests.
  • Better Combat with parrying while holding a shield.
  • Waystones for fast travel, Xaero's Minimap, and Create for automation.
  • FTB Teams and Quests for multiplayer, with shader, VR and controller support.

Vanilla rules shift as well. Stone tools are gone and copper tools are required to mine iron. A grindstone repairs weapons up to 33% durability, and a hay bale negates most fall damage up to about 30 blocks.

Installation and server pack

If you use the CurseForge app, turn off the "Skip Mojang Launcher" option because it causes issues. Allocate 8GB of RAM if you can, with 4GB as the minimum, and lower render distance and disable Fresh Animations and its extensions. Playing with friends needs Essential 1.4.1.1. VR uses ViveCraft, and controller play uses Controllable 0.21.7. Mac users should remove spark.

A dedicated server is set up by hand. Follow these steps.

  1. 1.Install Forge 47.4.22 for 1.20.1 with Java 17 and choose install server.
  2. 2.Copy the config, kubejs, default config and mods folders from the client to the server.
  3. 3.Remove client-only mods such as BadOptimizations, BetterF3, Drippy Loading Screen, Dynamic Crosshair, EnhancedVisuals, Enhanced Boss Bars and the Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features mods.
  4. 4.In server properties, enable flight and set the tick time limit to -1. Change render distance there and in the servercore config.
  5. 5.Run run.bat and forward the port.

Questions about Beyond Depth.

4 questions

How do I install Beyond Depth?

If you use the CurseForge app, turn off the "Skip Mojang Launcher" option, because it causes issues. Do not update mods or add OptiFine, and restart the pack if loading gets stuck. Mac users should remove spark.

How much RAM does Beyond Depth need?

The pack lists 4GB allocated as the minimum and 8GB as the recommendation. With more than 400 mods it is a heavy pack, so lowering render distance and disabling Fresh Animations and its extensions helps on weaker machines.

Is there a server pack for Beyond Depth?

The pack includes a manual server guide. You install Forge 47.4.22 for 1.20.1 with Java 17, copy the config, kubejs, default config and mods folders, remove the client-only mods, adjust server properties and run run.bat.

Can I play Beyond Depth with friends?

Yes. The pack includes FTB Teams and Quests for multiplayer adventures, and it is listed under the Multiplayer category on CurseForge. Playing with friends needs Essential 1.4.1.1 installed.
