Rapid Optimization is a rapid optimization modpack for Minecraft Java from SnowFox114. It ships for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge. It is installed on the client side only and is not supported on servers.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 26.3.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.7.10 to 1.20.1.

What it aims to do

The pitch is a lean mod list. SnowFox114 argues that other optimization packs carry extras that cost performance, so this one keeps just the optimizers. The creator reports gains of roughly 150% to 250% over unmodded play in ordinary conditions, and far more in extreme ones. These figures are the creator's own.

In the creator's 1.21.1 test (forest, render distance 12, simulation distance 8), vanilla ran at 900 to 1000 FPS. NeoForge reached 2200 to 2300, Fabric 2000 to 2100, and Fabulously Optimized 1600 to 1700. The creator singles out 26.2 on Fabric, 1.21.1 on NeoForge and 1.20.1 on Forge as the strongest builds.

How to install Rapid Optimization

  1. 1.Open the Modrinth page and pick the release that matches your loader and game version.
  2. 2.Import the .mrpack file into the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher. The launcher fetches the mods and the loader. The modpack install guide covers the steps.
  3. 3.For anything below 1.12.2, add OptiFine yourself. It is not bundled because of its licence.

Known issues and trade-offs

  • Foliage defaults to Fast. With shaders, leaves may render oddly until you set Video Settings, quality, foliage to Fancy.
  • Ixeris can cause black screens in fullscreen or FPS drops with shaders above 1.20.1. Disable it if that happens.
  • Accelerated Rendering can distort third-person player models with some shaders on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Change the batch layer storage type to SORTED.
  • Results vary by release, and 1.18.2 stays weak because the base game is poorly optimized there.
  • The newest Fabric and NeoForge releases are marked beta.

Questions about Rapid Optimization.

4 questions

What is the Rapid Optimization modpack?

Rapid Optimization is an optimization modpack by SnowFox114 for Minecraft Java, with Fabric, NeoForge and Forge builds. The creator says it avoids extra mods that cost frames, which is how it aims to beat other optimization packs.

Does Rapid Optimization work on a multiplayer server?

It is installed on the client side only, and dedicated servers are not supported.

Why does Rapid Optimization ask for OptiFine on old versions?

For releases below 1.12.2, OptiFine is the core optimizer, but its licence stops modpacks from bundling it. You need to fetch the OptiFine file for your exact game version from its own site and place it in the mods folder.

Which Rapid Optimization release gives the highest FPS?

The creator recommends 26.2 on Fabric, 1.21.1 on NeoForge and 1.20.1 on Forge. Results depend on the release, and the creator warns that 1.18.2 is held back by the base game itself.
