Ageing Spawners

Gives mob spawners a lifespan. Each spawner breaks after a configurable number of spawns, with whitelist and blacklist modes to choose which mobs are affected.

Ageing Spawners is a game-mechanics mod by Mrbysco that turns mob spawners into a limited resource. After a set number of spawns, the spawner breaks. It runs on NeoForge, with older Forge releases that have since stopped, and it must be present on both sides in multiplayer.

Loaders and versions

  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after June 2023. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How spawner limits work

Each spawner can only spawn a set number of mobs before it breaks. You decide which spawners age through one of two modes in the config.

  • Whitelist mode. Only listed mobs have spawners that break. An entry like "minecraft:pig;5" lets a pig spawner produce five pigs before it goes.
  • Whitelist default. An entry with no number uses the maxSpawnCount value from the Whitelist section.
  • Blacklist mode. The reverse: every spawner breaks except those for mobs on the blacklist. Entries need only the mob registry name, such as "minecraft:pig".

Installation and configuration

Install NeoForge for your target release first, using the NeoForge setup guide, then drop the mod file into the mods folder. The newest NeoForge release needs no other mods. For general steps, see the Java mod installation guide.

The config sits in the serverconfig folder inside the world. As of mod version 1.1.0 for 1.16.5+, it sits in the regular config folder instead.

The trade-off is that both sides need it, and Forge players are limited to older releases that are no longer updated.

Questions about Ageing Spawners.

3 questions

Where is the Ageing Spawners config file?

The config sits in the serverconfig folder inside the world. As of mod version 1.1.0 for 1.16.5+, it is in the regular config folder instead. The whitelist, blacklist and maxSpawnCount values are all edited there.

How do I limit only certain mobs with Ageing Spawners?

Use whitelist mode and list the mobs by registry name, for example "minecraft:pig;5" to let a pig spawner produce five pigs. Only the listed mobs have spawners that break. Blacklist mode does the opposite and spares only the listed mobs.

Does Ageing Spawners work on Forge?

Older Forge releases exist, but they have stopped and cover only earlier Minecraft releases. Current development is on NeoForge. Check the version list on this page to match your loader and Minecraft release before installing.
