Stonecutter Damage is a Minecraft Java mod and datapack that makes the stonecutter hurt any creature walking on it. It ships for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The server side is required and the client side is optional.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.14 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
The stonecutter inflicts 1 point of damage, half a heart, to a creature walking on it. It applies to every mob, with no per-mob setup. The idea is simple and the feature set is deliberately narrow: one block, one rule.
To exempt some mobs, add them to the entity type tag `#stonecutter_damage:blacklist`, defined in `stonecutter_damage/tags/entity_types/blacklist.json`. Villagers are already on that list, so a village is not emptied by its own residents wandering over a workstation. Anything you add is spared, and anything left off the list takes the damage.
Installing the mod or the datapack
The project offers two routes. Pick the one that suits your setup, and see how to install Java mods if you are new to loaders.
- 1.Mod route: install the loader you use, then put the matching mod file in the mods folder. Put it on the server, and optionally on players' own installs.
- 2.Datapack route: the project also publishes a datapack build, as an alternative to the mod files.
- 3.Add the required resource pack, which is the second file on the Modrinth version page.
- 4.Edit the blacklist tag if you want other mobs to be spared.
Questions about Stonecutter Damage.
3 questions
How much damage does the stonecutter deal?
A creature walking on a stonecutter takes 1 point of damage, which is half a heart. The rule applies to every mob unless it appears in the `#stonecutter_damage:blacklist` entity type tag. Villagers are on that tag by default.
Can I stop certain mobs from taking stonecutter damage?
Yes. Add the mob to the entity type tag `#stonecutter_damage:blacklist`, found at `stonecutter_damage/tags/entity_types/blacklist.json`. Villagers are already listed so that a village is not wiped out by its own inhabitants stepping on workstations.
Does Stonecutter Damage need to be installed on the server?
Yes. The server side is required and the client side is optional. The README also says to download the required resource pack, which is the second file on the version page, so check that both files are in place before starting. Mobs on the blacklist tag stay unharmed.
