|---|---|

| Environment | Client, Server |
Improved Weather is a weather datapack and mod for Minecraft Java that gives biomes their own storms. It ships as jars for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a plain datapack for anyone who prefers that route. The server must run it. Players need nothing extra on their side.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.21.2 to 1.21.3 require CIT Resewn.
What changes in each biome
- Snow biomes: snow layers pile up during snowfall and faster in thunder, then melt in clear weather where light is above 11. Farmland turns to dirt under snow, lava cools, and mobs and players take freezing damage in a snowstorm unless they wear a leather chestplate or stand in bright light.
- Deserts: a sandstorm in rain and a stronger one with a sand tornado in thunder. Breezes, rabbits, camels, parched, camel husks and anything in a leather helmet are immune.
- Wet biomes (jungle, beach, rivers, oceans, swamps, lush and dripstone caves): morning mist, ocean waves, floods in rain and massive floods in thunder.
- Savanna and badlands: daytime fire and lightning on blocks mineable with a shovel or hoe, far heavier in thunder.
- Smaller touches: fireflies near rivers and swamps on clear nights, and campfires that go out in the rain (soul campfires far less often).
Installing the mod or the datapack
For the mod route, pick the jar that matches your loader and drop it in the mods folder. The install guide for Java mods covers the steps. For the datapack route, the datapack builds cover 1.19.4 and newer. Builds for 1.20 to 1.20.4 also need the MC Silver DP RP pack.
Commands and the optional resource pack
Everything runs through functions. Open the settings with /function .menu:mcs_weather, summon a weather entity with /function .summon:mcs_weather/entity_name, and remove the pack cleanly with /function .uninstall:mcs_weather. A separate resource pack is optional. It thins out rain particles and makes rain and snow more transparent.
Questions about Improved Weather.
4 questions
Does Improved Weather need to be installed on the server?
Yes. Improved Weather is required on the server and optional for players. Everyone on a server that runs it sees the weather effects without installing anything themselves. Only the optional resource pack, which changes how rain and snow look, is something each player adds on their own.
Can I use Improved Weather as a datapack without a mod loader?
Yes. A plain datapack is published alongside the Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt jars, so you can use it with no loader at all. It covers 1.19.4 and newer, and the newest datapack build requires no other download.
Is the resource pack required for Improved Weather?
No. The resource pack is optional and only improves how rain and snow look. It reduces rain particles and makes both rain and snow more transparent. The weather effects themselves come from the datapack or mod.
How do I remove Improved Weather from a world?
Improved Weather includes an uninstall function, /function .uninstall:mcs_weather, listed with its other commands. Every command the player uses starts with /function, and the settings menu opens with /function .menu:mcs_weather. No other removal route is documented, so check the Modrinth page if you need more detail.
