L2 Hostility is an enemy enhancement mod for NeoForge and Forge that gives every mob a level and special traits. Strength follows the player, so early worlds stay fair and late ones turn dangerous. It must be installed on both sides of a multiplayer world.

Loaders and versions

How the difficulty system works

A mob's level comes from the dimension, biome, position, nearby player difficulty and entity type. Higher levels mean more health, more damage and a better chance of strong traits. Chunk sections and players each carry a difficulty value. Killing mobs raises it and dying lowers it, so you never meet absurdly strong enemies at the start. The Hostility Detector shows the current value, and a Hostility Orb stops a chunk section from ever spawning leveled mobs, which gives you a safe region around a base.

Traits and progression

The mod adds 37 traits, sorted into four groups. Traits, difficulty and drops can all be tuned through config and datapack.

  • Regular traits such as Fiery, Invisible, Tank, Speedy and Counter Strike.
  • Advanced traits such as Adaptive, Reflect, Split and Drain, which appear only after level 100. Corrosion and Erosion wait until level 200.
  • Potion traits such as Blinder, Poisonous and Withering, which inflict the matching effect.
  • Legendary traits such as Undying, Teleport and Dementor, unlocked once you kill a mob carrying Rank 5 traits.

Progression is simple. Kill mobs with traits to collect ingredients, craft Curse of Envy to obtain trait symbols, then use those symbols to craft better gear. The mod also adds 28 curio items and 2 enchantments to help you fight back. L2 Weaponry and L2 Archery are the suggested companions.

Installation

  1. 1.Install NeoForge or Forge for the Minecraft release you play, following the Forge and NeoForge install guide.
  2. 2.Place the mod file and every required library in the mods folder.
  3. 3.Add the same files on the multiplayer host, then launch with the loader's profile.

L2 Complements supplies some of the enchantments and effects, including the Cursed, Soul Burner and Freezing potion traits. The trade-off is a heavy dependency chain, so check every required library before you launch.

Questions about L2 Hostility.

4 questions

How do I kill Undying mobs in L2 Hostility?

Undying mobs respawn indefinitely, so raw damage will not finish them. The mod points to the Cursed effect as the answer, either from a Cursed potion or from weapons that inflict it. Undying is a legendary trait, unlocked once you kill a mob carrying Rank 5 traits, and it appears only after level 100.

Does L2 Hostility work on Fabric?

No. The mod is made for NeoForge and Forge only, and no Fabric files are listed. Pick the loader that matches your Minecraft release, then add the required libraries for that loader.

Does L2 Hostility need to be installed on the multiplayer host?

Yes. The mod is required on both sides, so every player and the host of a multiplayer world need it installed. Install the required libraries alongside it too, since the mod depends on them, and use the loader build that matches your Minecraft release.

How do I lower the difficulty in L2 Hostility?

Difficulty drops when you die, and it rises only when you kill strong enemies. For a lasting fix near your base, use a Hostility Orb to make a chunk section permanently stop spawning leveled mobs.
