| Platform | Java Edition |

| Environment | Client, Server |
Better Mace is a better mace datapack that also ships as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. It makes the mace smash attack feel like a real smash by creating a wave around the enemy you hurt. The server needs it, and installing it on the player side is optional.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.2. The newest build requires Fabric API.
What it changes
When you perform a smash attack, the datapack creates a wave around the enemy you hurt. It does not apply more damage.
Multiplayer works. The datapack follows Smithed conventions, which keeps it compatible with other datapacks. It does not work below 1.21, because the mace does not exist there.
How to install Better Mace
There are two routes. Pick one, not both.
- 1.Datapack route, no loader needed. Download the plain datapack build from the Modrinth page. It requires no other mod.
- 2.Mod route. Install your loader (see how to install Fabric or Forge and NeoForge), then place the mod file and its dependency from the list above in the mods folder.
- 3.Launch with the loader's profile and load a world. On a dedicated server, install it on the server itself.
Removing it and newer releases
Before removing the datapack, run `/function mace:unistall` (the creator's spelling). It clears the scoreboards and other data the pack uses. Only then delete it from the datapacks folder.
If a newer Minecraft release arrives before an update does, the creator suggests raising the `pack_format` value in the datapack's `pack.mcmeta`. It may not work as intended.
Questions about Better Mace.
5 questions
Does the Better Mace datapack work in multiplayer?
Yes. The creator confirms multiplayer compatibility. The server is required, and installing it on the player side is optional. The wave appears around the enemy you hit with a smash attack, and no damage values change.
Does Better Mace make the mace deal more damage?
No. It only creates a wave around the enemy you hurt during a smash attack, and it applies no more damage.
Is Better Mace compatible with other datapacks?
Yes. It follows the Smithed conventions, which exist to keep datapacks from clashing. The creator states it is compatible with other datapacks, so you can run it alongside your existing ones.
How do I uninstall the Better Mace datapack?
Run `/function mace:unistall` in your world first, spelled exactly like that. It removes the scoreboards and other data the datapack created. After that, delete the pack from the datapacks folder so nothing is left behind.
Can I modify and redistribute Better Mace?
Yes, under Apache 2.0, as long as you name Eclipse Studios as the original creator and link the original Modrinth page somewhere noticeable in your project.
