Snowy Biomes: Enhanced is a Minecraft Java mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt that improves the vanilla snowy biomes. It also ships as a plain snowy biomes enhanced data pack for players who do not want a loader. The mod is required on the server, and optional on the client.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric, Forge and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What changes in snowy biomes

  • Snow settles under trees instead of leaving bare ground beneath the canopy.
  • Leaves turn white while snow falls, a behaviour borrowed from Bedrock.
  • Smooth snow is inspired by Terralith but made with the creator's own code.
  • Easy Tectonic support is listed as a feature, and the compatibility notes below cover the load order.

Set the Biome Blend graphics option to its maximum.

Installing the mod or the datapack

  1. 1.Pick a route. The mod files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the datapack needs no loader. Our guides cover installing Fabric and Forge and NeoForge.
  2. 2.For the mod, place the file for your loader and Minecraft release in the mods folder, then launch with that loader's profile.
  3. 3.On a dedicated server, install the same files there. Players joining can add the mod too, but they do not have to.

Compatibility and trade-offs

The datapack route does not support Tectonic, so choose the mod if you want that pairing. With the Fabric mod, move it above Tectonic in the datapack list when generating a world. Quilt needs QSL or the mod will not work.

Questions about Snowy Biomes: Enhanced.

4 questions

Is Snowy Biomes Enhanced a mod or a data pack?

It is both. The same project ships mod files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a plain datapack that needs no loader. The datapack versions do not support Tectonic.

Does Snowy Biomes Enhanced work with Tectonic?

Yes, with the Fabric mod files. When generating a world, place the Fabric mod above Tectonic in the datapack section. The plain datapack does not support Tectonic, so use the Fabric mod if you want the two together.

Does it work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. It must be installed on the server. Players who join do not have to install it, though adding it on the client is optional.

Can I use it with Terralith or Geophilic?

The creator does not recommend it. If you want smooth snow like Terralith's, this project offers its own version without that pack.
