What Borderless Mining works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Quilt |
| Minecraft versions | 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.2 |
| Environment | Client |
Borderless Mining changes Minecraft Java's Fullscreen video setting into a real borderless window, so alt-tabbing or clicking a second monitor no longer minimizes the game. It's a client-side Fabric and Quilt mod from comp500 with no required dependencies. The catch: the newest build only reaches Minecraft 1.20.2, and nothing has shipped for either loader since October 2023.
Installation
- 1.Download the Fabric or Quilt build from Modrinth that matches your Minecraft version exactly, up to 1.20.2.
- 2.Install Fabric Loader or Quilt for that same version.
- 3.Drop the Borderless Mining jar into the mods folder. No other mods are required to run it.
- 4.Launch the game, open Video Settings, and switch Fullscreen to "Borderless Windowed" from the new option the mod adds.
- 5.Optional: open Mod Menu to adjust Borderless Mining's own settings.
Supported Minecraft versions and loaders
Fabric and Quilt share the current codebase and both stop at Minecraft 1.20.2, last released in October 2023 as build 1.1.9. Forge support exists too, but it is a separate, much older port capped at Minecraft 1.12.2 and last built in December 2021. Treat the Forge download as a legacy option, not an equivalent to the Fabric and Quilt build.
Why Borderless Mining might not seem to work
- On macOS, the borderless window is disabled by default because of how the menu bar sits over the game window. Turning it on is a manual step, not a bug.
- After installing, the game keeps using plain Fullscreen until you pick "Borderless Windowed" yourself in Video Settings.
- The mod's own GitHub issues include reports on Fabric where alt-tabbing still hid the game entirely, closed without a documented fix from the maintainer.
- A widely read r/fabricmc thread, "Borderless Mining Mod Doesn't Seem to be Working," covers the same complaint and is worth reading if a clean install still won't switch modes.
A newer option if you're past 1.20.2
Since Minecraft 26.1, Java Edition's own Video Settings replaced the old Fullscreen toggle with Borderless and Exclusive options, so a current release gets a native borderless window without any mod at all. Borderless Mining predates that change and was never updated to match it. Borderless Mining Updated is a separate, actively maintained fork with its own CurseForge listing that targets newer versions and removes an input-lag side effect that vanilla's Exclusive Fullscreen carries for keyboard input method support. It is not the same project as this page covers. For an alternative still built for Fabric, see Cubes Without Borders.

Questions about Borderless Mining.
5 questions
How do I install Borderless Mining?
Download the Fabric or Quilt build from Modrinth that matches your Minecraft version, install Fabric Loader or Quilt for that version, then drop the jar into your mods folder. No other mods are required. After launching, switch Fullscreen to "Borderless Windowed" in Video Settings to turn it on.
Does Borderless Mining work with Forge?
Yes, but only as a separate legacy build capped at Minecraft 1.12.2 and last updated in December 2021. It does not share the Fabric and Quilt codebase or its 1.20.2 ceiling, so treat the Forge download as an old port rather than an equal option.
Which Minecraft version does Borderless Mining support?
Fabric and Quilt builds go up to Minecraft 1.20.2, released in October 2023 as version 1.1.9. Forge tops out much earlier at 1.12.2. No build for any loader has followed Minecraft's later 1.21.x or 26.x releases.
Why doesn't Borderless Mining seem to work?
Check that you actually selected "Borderless Windowed" in Video Settings after installing; it doesn't switch on its own. On macOS it's disabled by default due to menu bar behavior. The mod's GitHub issues and a well-known r/fabricmc thread both document cases where it produced no visible change at all.
Is there an actively maintained alternative to Borderless Mining?
Borderless Mining Updated is a separate community fork on CurseForge built for newer Minecraft versions. Since Minecraft 26.1, vanilla Video Settings also include a built-in Borderless option. Cubes Without Borders is another Fabric mod covering similar ground that is already on this site.
