Chat Tools is a chat toolkit for Minecraft Java by 70CentsApple, built for Fabric and NeoForge. It bundles timestamps, translators, a notifier, macros, chat bubbles and a chat filter, and the features work together through commands. It is a client-side mod, so install it on your own game alongside Cloth Config API.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cloth Config API; some builds for 1.18.2 to 1.20.1 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.5 to 26.3. The newest build requires Cloth Config API.
What it covers
- Timestamps, translators and a notifier for incoming chat.
- Macros and chat bubbles.
- A chat filter: if any pattern in the filter rules matches an incoming message, the message is filtered.
- A responder that automatically answers other players' messages, with different rules per server.
Rules are regular expressions, matched in multiline mode with find(). Colour codes are stripped from player messages before matching. Rules can be scoped to a session identifier, which is the save name in single-player and the server address in multiplayer. Those scoped entries use matches(), so they must fit the whole identifier.
Commands and settings
- /chattools opengui opens the configuration page, and /chattools on or off toggles the mod.
- /chattools regex_checker validates a pattern, and tests it against sample text if you add some.
- /chattools config get, set and toggle change keys for the current session, with an option to save them to the file.
- /chattools config openfile opens the file directly, but edits there need a restart.
Turn on Advanced Tooltips (F3+H) and hover over an option in the configuration page to see its key and default value. The same mod release can behave slightly differently between Minecraft versions, because the creator maintains them through macro replacement.
Installation
- 1.Set up the loader that matches your Minecraft release, for example by following the Fabric guide.
- 2.Place the mod file and its required dependency in .minecraft/mods.
- 3.Launch with the loader profile and run /chattools opengui to configure it.
The trade-off is depth. Filters, responder rules and session scoping all lean on regular expressions, so expect some learning before the more advanced features pay off. The mod is not supported on servers; it only runs on the player's side.

Questions about Chat Tools.
3 questions
Does Chat Tools work on multiplayer servers?
Chat Tools is a client-side mod, so you install it on your own game and it works while you play on servers. It is not supported on the server itself, so server owners do not need to install anything for you to use it.
How do I open the Chat Tools settings?
Run /chattools opengui in chat to open the configuration page. You can also edit the config file with /chattools config openfile, but changes made there only apply after a restart. Hover options with F3+H enabled to see their keys.
Does Chat Tools work on Bedrock Edition?
No. Chat Tools is a Java Edition mod for Fabric and NeoForge, and Bedrock Edition cannot load mods of this kind. Java players need the loader that matches their Minecraft release, plus the required dependency.
