The Do a Barrel Roll mod is a lightweight, clientside Fabric mod that redesigns elytra flight around a fully unlocked camera. You get full pitch, yaw and roll control, with banking and smoothing applied to the view. Current builds cover 1.17.1 to 26.3 and must be on the client, while the server side is optional.
Loaders and requirements
- Fabric, 1.17.1 to 26.3. The newest release, 3.8.5, targets 26.3 and needs CICADA and Fabric API. YetAnotherConfigLib is optional.
- Older Fabric builds differ. Those for 1.18.2 to 1.19.2 use Cloth Config API, and some for 1.19.4 to 1.20.2 need YetAnotherConfigLib.
- NeoForge has stopped. The last build is 3.7.3 for 1.21.1, from February 2025.
- Forge has stopped. The last build is 3.5.6 for 1.20.1, from May 2024.
Controls and configuration
Defaults can be rebound. Mouse x rolls, mouse y pitches, and the strafe keys (normally A and D) yaw.
Settings live in an in-game screen reached through Mod Menu and YACL. Install both, find the mod in the list and press its config button. Options include custom mouse behaviour, elytra activation restrictions, and values for banking and sensitivity.
Multiplayer behaviour
Installing the mod on a server as well syncs visuals such as player model roll between players who have it. Vanilla clients and servers stay fully compatible. Without the server mod you see only your own roll, and players without the mod see none.
The mod builds on Jorbon's Cool Elytra Roll, specifically its realistic mode. MehVahdJukaar did the original Forge port, and the icon is by Mizeno.
