Eating Animation is a Fabric mod for Minecraft Java that gives food and potions real motion instead of Minecraft's static eating pose. It runs client-side only, so no server install is needed, and its current stable release covers Minecraft up to 1.21.1.
What Eating Animation changes in Minecraft
The mod animates the item sprite itself while a player eats or drinks, cycling through bite and sip frames instead of jumping straight from full item to empty hand. It covers every vanilla food and potion by default and ships a built-in resource pack that extends the same animation to food from several third-party mods, so the visual works whether the item came from vanilla Minecraft or an installed food mod. That is a different fix from what a mod like Not Enough Animations does, since that mod changes the player's body pose rather than the item's own sprite, and the two can run together without conflict.

Installing Eating Animation on Fabric
Eating Animation has no required dependencies beyond Fabric Loader, so Fabric API is not needed for the base mod to run.
- 1.Install Fabric Loader for the Minecraft version you play.
- 2.Download the Eating Animation jar for that version from its Modrinth page.
- 3.Place the jar in the .minecraft/mods folder.
- 4.Launch the Fabric profile, then open Options > Resource Packs and enable the built-in Eating Animation mods support pack if you run any of the supported food mods.
Supported Minecraft versions
The current stable release, version 1.9.72, reached Minecraft 1.21.1 in June 2024. A beta build published in December 2024 adds 1.21.3 support, but no full release has followed it since, so treat 1.21.3 as beta-only coverage rather than the stable ceiling. Fabric is the only loader theoness1 publishes for. A separate mod named Eating Animations, built by a different developer for Forge and NeoForge, fills that gap but is not the same project as this one.
How to animate a resource pack for Eating Animation
Questions about Eating Animation.
5 questions
What mod is this eating animation from?
It is Eating Animation, a client-side Fabric mod by theoness1 available on Modrinth. It replaces the frozen bite icon that plays when a player eats or drinks in vanilla Minecraft with an animated sprite, and it works the same way in single-player and multiplayer without any server-side installation.
Does Eating Animation work with Forge or NeoForge?
No. theoness1 publishes Eating Animation for Fabric only, and both the creator's Modrinth and CurseForge pages carry the same Fabric-only build. A separate mod called Eating Animations, made by a different developer, covers Forge and NeoForge, but it is not the same project and is not what this page describes.
Is Eating Animation the same as the Eating Animation Resource Pack?
No. Eating Animation Resource Pack is a separate Modrinth project that only supplies textures, and it needs an animation mod like this one to actually play the frames. Eating Animation is the mod that drives the animation, and the two projects have different creators and different scopes.
Do I need Fabric API to run Eating Animation?
No. Eating Animation lists no required dependencies beyond Fabric Loader itself, so Fabric API is not needed for the base mod. A modpack that bundles Eating Animation alongside other mods may still need Fabric API for those other mods, but this mod alone does not.
Can I use Eating Animation on Bedrock Edition?
No. Eating Animation is a Java Edition Fabric mod and does not run on Bedrock. A separate, unofficial CurseForge texture pack called Voxen's Eating Animation exists for Bedrock, made by an unrelated creator, and it has no connection to this mod.
