Elytra Trims is a Java mod for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge that lets you decorate elytra the way you decorate armor. It adds armor trims, any dye color and banner patterns, plus a glow effect and a nether star flourish.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric Language Kotlin and Fabric API; some builds for 1.20 to 1.21.1 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.19.4 to 1.20.4 require Fabric API.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.4 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally KotlinLangForge and Kotlin for Forge; some builds for 1.21.5 to 1.21.8 require Kotlin for Forge; some builds for 1.20.4 to 1.21.1 require Kotlin for Forge.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 1.20.2. The newest build requires Kotlin for Forge, optionally YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL); some builds for 1.19.4 to 1.20.2 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.19.4 to 1.20.2 require Fabric API.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after January 2024. The newest build requires Fabric API, optionally YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), Cloth Config API and Command Config Lib.
What you can do to an elytra
- Trims: every vanilla trim has a texture, plus some custom ones. A trial key in place of the trim pattern unlocks extra elytra on 1.21.10 and newer.
- Banner patterns: combine an elytra with a banner and paper in the smithing table, or with leather for shield patterns. Patterns arrive without the base color, so dye the elytra to add it.
- Dyeing: any color, in a crafting table.
- Glowing: add a glow ink sac.
- Cosmic effect: costs a nether star.
- Easter eggs: a few secret recipes are left to find. Full recipes are on the wiki.
On 1.20 and 1.21 you may also want Elytra Trims Extensions for trim compatibility. Recipes shift between updates, so check the changelog.
Multiplayer behavior
Put the mod file and its required libraries in your mods folder, following how to install mods on Java. Quilt builds have stopped, so use Fabric, NeoForge or Forge.
Conflicts and troubleshooting
Customizable Elytra overrides the elytra renderer, and Lunar and Feather Client break elytra rendering. KubeJS breaks the decoration recipes. If trims will not apply, check that the mod is installed with the right loader and that no conflicting mod is present. If you cannot see them, check your own install.
Questions about Elytra Trims.
4 questions
Do players need Elytra Trims to join a world that uses it?
No. Players without the mod can join a host that has it installed, but they will not see trims, patterns or dyes on elytra. Players who do have the mod can see and craft decorated elytra.
Why can't I see trims on my elytra?
Check that Elytra Trims is installed on your own side with the correct loader, and that no conflicting mod is present. Trims from other mods or datapacks need custom elytra textures. Non-vanilla elytra may need explicit support, so file an issue report in that case.
Does Elytra Trims work with KubeJS?
KubeJS is listed as a conflict because it breaks the elytra decoration recipes. Customizable Elytra also conflicts, since it replaces the elytra renderer. Lunar and Feather break elytra rendering too. Remove those if trims fail to apply or display.
How do I put a banner pattern on an elytra?
Use a smithing table. Combine the elytra with a banner and paper to transfer the banner's patterns, or with leather to transfer shield patterns. The pattern is applied without the base color, so dye the elytra in a crafting table to add one.
