Trims - Color Splash! is a Java mod and data pack that adds 29 new trim materials for armor at the smithing table. It ships for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and also as a plain data pack for anyone who skips a loader. It must be present on the server, while players joining can go without it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally More Armor Trims, Tool Trims Mod, Trimmable Tools and Elytra Trims.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally More Armor Trims, Trimmable Tools and Elytra Trims.
What it adds
Keitooo's pack widens the trim palette well beyond the vanilla gems and ingots. New materials include Echo Shard, Nether Star, Ender Pearl, Blue Ice, Crying Obsidian, Shulker Shell and Rose Gold, which is crafted with a shapeless recipe. Glass works as a material that visually removes a trim. The idea is openly inspired by More Trim Colors from Skottify.
Older releases use substitutes for a few materials, including Brick, Honey Block, Magma Block and Pearlescent Froglight, so the palette shifts slightly depending on what you run.
Installing the mod or the data pack
- 1.Mod route: pick the file for your loader and Minecraft release, then place it in the mods folder. The mod install guide covers the steps.
- 2.Data pack route: install the data pack in your world, then add the required resource pack too. Without it, textures go missing.
- 3.The main button on Modrinth gives only the data pack. The resource pack sits in the Versions tab.
- 4.If recipes do not appear, restart the world, server or realm.
Compatibility and trade-offs
The materials are built to sit alongside other trim add-ons. The creator lists More Armor Trims, Elytra Trims and Trimmable Tools among them, plus Tool Trims Mod, Frostiful and Alex's Caves. All of these are optional, and none are needed to run it.
The trade-off is the server requirement. On multiplayer, whoever runs the server has to install it, and the data pack route means managing two packs instead of one file.
Questions about Trims - Color Splash!.
4 questions
Why does the smithing table show a red X on the recipe?
Drop the trim material on the ground, pick it up again, and retry. If the red X stays, restart the server. Should that fail too, check that the data pack is installed correctly, then report the problem on the creator's Discord or GitHub issues page.
Why am I seeing missing textures on the new trims?
The data pack route depends on a separate resource pack. Without it, the new materials render with missing textures. Install the resource pack alongside the data pack and the trims should display correctly.
Where do I find the resource pack for Trims - Color Splash?
The main button on the Modrinth page gives only the data pack. Open the Versions tab on the project and look for the resource pack file there, then install it next to the data pack in your world.
Does Trims - Color Splash work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, but it has to be installed on the server, since the new recipes and materials live there. Players joining do not need the mod to use it. If recipes seem missing after installing, restart the world or server.
