What Exposure works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt |
| Minecraft versions | 1.19.2, 1.20.1, 1.21.1 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Exposure turns Minecraft into a working darkroom. Load film into an in-game camera, frame the shot through the viewfinder with adjustable focal length and shutter speed, then develop the roll on a Lightroom block and print it into frames, an album, or a wall display. Fabric and NeoForge builds run on Minecraft 1.21.1; Forge and Quilt haven't moved past 1.20.1. Both the client and the server need the mod installed.
What Exposure adds to the game
The Camera captures black and white or color film, sixteen frames to a roll. Sneak and right-click to open its attachments menu and swap in a Redstone Lamp flash, a Spyglass lens, or a glass-pane filter, then sneak while looking through the viewfinder to adjust focal length, shutter speed, flash mode, and composition guides, plus a self-timer for hands-free shots.
Exposed film needs developing before it can be printed on the Lightroom block, which also previews negatives so you can compare them before committing to a print. A black and white print costs paper and black dye; a color print adds cyan, magenta, and yellow dye on top. Finished photographs go in item frames, a photo album, or on a wall.
The Camera Stand holds a camera in place for remote or hands-free photography. Trigger it yourself, use the self-timer, or send a redstone pulse, which fires the shutter two ticks later, and it can ride in a boat or get carried by a minecart for a shot on the move.
Installing Exposure and its dependencies
Exposure needs two library mods on Fabric and Quilt: Fabric API and Forge Config API Port, the second porting Forge and NeoForge's config system into the Fabric ecosystem. Forge and NeoForge builds carry no required dependencies of their own. Just Enough Items is an optional add-on for browsing recipes in-game and isn't required to run the mod.
- Fabric: requires Fabric API and Forge Config API Port, current release build reaches Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge: no required dependencies, current release build reaches Minecraft 1.21.1
- Quilt: requires Fabric API and Forge Config API Port, last build published June 2025, capped at Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge: no required dependencies, newest build is a beta capped at Minecraft 1.20.1
Compatibility and known limitations
OptiFine is known to cause problems with Exposure; use Sodium or Embeddium instead if you're also running a performance mod. Visual Overhaul crashes when opening the camera controls, Exordium causes flickering while looking through the viewfinder, and FastAnim on Fabric breaks player model animations while the camera is active.

Questions about Exposure.
5 questions
What does the Exposure mod do?
Exposure adds a working film camera to Minecraft. Load black and white or color film, frame a shot through the viewfinder, then develop the roll on a Lightroom block before printing photographs into item frames, an album, or a wall display. A Camera Stand lets you trigger shots remotely or by redstone.
How do I get a camera stand in Exposure?
Exposure's own documentation doesn't publish crafting recipes, so check your recipe book or Just Enough Items, the mod's optional dependency, for the exact ingredients on your version. Once crafted, the Camera Stand holds a camera in place for remote shots, triggered by hand, a self-timer, or a redstone pulse that fires the shutter two ticks later.
Does Exposure work with Forge and Quilt?
Yes, but they lag behind. The newest Forge build is a beta capped at Minecraft 1.20.1, and Quilt hasn't shipped an update since June 2025, also capped at 1.20.1. Fabric and NeoForge are the actively updated loaders, both reaching Minecraft 1.21.1.
What do I need installed to run Exposure?
On Fabric and Quilt, install Fabric API and Forge Config API Port alongside Exposure; both are required there. Forge and NeoForge builds need no extra required mods. Just Enough Items is optional on every loader, useful for browsing recipes in-game.
Is Exposure compatible with shaders and OptiFine?
Exposure works with shader packs through Iris, but OptiFine is known to cause problems, so use Sodium or Embeddium instead. A few other mods, including Visual Overhaul, Exordium, and FastAnim on Fabric, have documented conflicts with the camera controls or player animations.
