Fusion (Connected Textures)

A library mod by SuperMartijn642 that lets resource packs use connected textures, scrolling textures and conditional entity models. It does nothing on its own and needs a pack written for it.

Fusion (Connected Textures) is a library mod for Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge that lets resource packs use texture and model types vanilla does not offer, most notably connected textures. Other mods can hook into it too, as an optional soft dependency. It is needed only on the player's side.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric and Quilt: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.12 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.12 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What Fusion adds

Fusion supplies the machinery, and resource packs supply the art. A connecting model joins to other blocks, matched by block or by state, when paired with a connecting texture.

  • Connected textures in seven layouts, from compact to full.
  • Scrolling textures that move from any corner to any other, diagonals included, which suits conveyor belts.
  • Continuous textures that span several blocks as one image.
  • Block overlays built from the connecting model and texture types.
  • Custom entity models and modifiers that change by altitude, biome, dimension or age.

Installing Fusion

  1. 1.Install the loader that matches your Java setup, then place the mod file in the mods folder.
  2. 2.On Fabric or Quilt, add Fabric API as well.
  3. 3.Add a resource pack written for Fusion.

Fusion alone changes nothing visible. Placing it on a dedicated multiplayer host does nothing, so install it where the player runs the game.

Resource packs that use it

The creator maintains official packs for block transitions, connected blocks, connected glass, emissive ores, stacking items and 3D items. Third-party packs include Glowing Emissive Ores, Connected Bricks, Connected Paths and Midnighttigger's Better Grass and Snow. Glass fans can also look at Connected Glass.

Questions about Fusion (Connected Textures).

4 questions

Do I need Fusion on a multiplayer host?

No. Fusion is only required on the player's side and does nothing when installed on a dedicated host. Each player who wants connected textures installs the mod and a compatible resource pack on their own machine.

Does Fusion work with Sodium?

Yes, with one caveat on Fabric. Sodium older than 0.6 ignores the Fabric Rendering API, so Indium must be installed alongside it. Newer Sodium releases do not need that extra patch, according to the creator's notes.

Does Fusion change anything by itself?

No. Fusion is a library that adds new texture and model types. You need a resource pack or mod written for Fusion before any block connects, scrolls or changes its entity model.

Can I use Fusion in a modpack?

Yes. The creator's page states that you are allowed to use Fusion in your modpack. The repository has no licence file, so that statement is the only permission the page gives.
