GeyserReversion

A Geyser extension that translates older Bedrock clients so they can join a Java server, the Bedrock counterpart to ViaVersion. It runs on the server only.

EnvironmentServer

GeyserReversion is a Geyser extension that lets older Bedrock clients join a Java server when Geyser does not support them natively. The idea is the same as ViaVersion, applied to Bedrock. It runs on the server only, and players install nothing.

Loaders and versions

  • Minecraft 1.7.10 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.

Installation

This is not a plugin and not a loader mod. It belongs in Geyser's own extensions folder.

  1. 1.Install Geyser on your server first.
  2. 2.Place the GeyserReversion file inside the extensions folder in your Geyser folder.

What to expect

The translation layer uses a fork of the Ouranos library. The idea comes from bundabrg's earlier GeyserReversion, but this is an entirely different codebase. The repository README is marked as archived for now, so treat future fixes as uncertain.

  • Anticheats will likely flag translated players, and compatibility with other projects is not promised, including the creator's own.
  • Older Bedrock clients may crash often, the console can fill with errors, and not every client release works properly.
  • Below Bedrock 1.20, Xbox validation does not work because of authentication changes. Players are asked to sign in with their Bedrock profile when joining.

The creator also points to GeyserFloatingPoints, which fixes floating-point precision on Bedrock at high coordinates, GeyserExtras, which bundles bug fixes, and Geyser Recipe Fix, which repairs anvil behaviour and related recipes.

Questions about GeyserReversion.

4 questions

Is GeyserReversion a plugin?

No. It is a Geyser extension, so it goes in the extensions folder inside your Geyser folder rather than the plugins folder. Geyser itself must already be installed on the server. Players do not install anything on their side.

What does GeyserReversion do?

It lets older Bedrock clients that Geyser does not support natively connect to a Java server. It translates between protocol versions, much as ViaVersion does for Java clients, so you do not have to force every Bedrock player onto the newest release.

Does GeyserReversion work with custom blocks?

Not at the moment. Servers with custom blocks run into breakage, and the creator says to set enable-custom-content to false for now. A fix is being worked on, but no date is given.

Will anticheats flag players using GeyserReversion?

Probably. The creator warns that translated players will likely trigger anticheats and that compatibility with other projects is not promised. Test on a staging server before opening it to everyone.
