Leashable Players lets one player attach a lead to another, so friends get tugged around like cattle. It ships for Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, plus a plugin file for Bukkit, Spigot, Paper and Purpur servers. It runs on the server only.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.13 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.21.4 to 1.21.10 require Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.17 to 1.21.3, builds stopped after June 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it changes

The mod lets you leash other players with a lead. Gamerules set the distance between two players before the leash starts pulling and the distance before it breaks. Modrinth files the mod under cursed and social, and its summary promises ruined friendships. Treat it as a prank tool for private servers, not a polished mechanic.

Installation

  1. 1.Pick the file made for your loader (Fabric, NeoForge or Forge) and place it in the mods folder on the server.
  2. 2.On Bukkit, Spigot, Paper or Purpur, put the plugin file in the plugins folder instead. A single plugin file is enough.
  3. 3.Start the server. Players need nothing installed on their side, because installing it on a player's own copy is unsupported.

Loader setup is covered in our Fabric guide and the Forge and NeoForge guide.

Gamerules

All settings live in gamerules. On 1.21.11 and newer the names are snake_case, because gamerules moved into a registry and were renamed. Older releases use different names.

  • leash_players_enabled is the master switch.
  • leash_players_distance_min sets the distance before the knockback pull kicks in.
  • A third gamerule sets how far apart two players can get before the leash breaks.

Questions about Leashable Players.

4 questions

Do players need to install Leashable Players?

No. The mod is required on the server and installing it on a player's own install is unsupported. Put the file in the server's mods folder, or the plugin file in plugins, and everyone who joins can use leashes.

Is there a Leashable Players plugin for Spigot or Paper?

Yes. Alongside the Fabric, NeoForge and Forge mods, a separate plugin file covers Bukkit, Spigot, Paper and Purpur servers. It goes in the plugins folder, and one plugin file is enough.

How do I turn off player leashing?

Set the leash_players_enabled gamerule to false on 1.21.11 and newer. It is the master switch for the whole mod. Older releases use differently named gamerules for the same setting.

Can I change how far a leash stretches?

Yes. Gamerules control the distance at which the leash starts pulling and the distance at which it breaks. Set both to suit your players, since the defaults are not stated on the page.
