Immersive Weathering is a Minecraft Java mod that layers natural aging and decay across block types throughout your world. Compatible with Fabric and Forge on Minecraft 1.18.1 through 1.20.1, the mod runs on both client and server. Install it on both sides in multiplayer so weathered block variants generate correctly in new chunks.
What Immersive Weathering Adds
- Stone surfaces erode into sandy, fractured, or moss-edged variants depending on the surrounding biome
- Iron blocks and iron walls develop a rust layer over time
- Leaves decompose and fall, accumulating as leaf piles on the forest floor
- Cold biomes grow permafrost under snowpack and icicles on structural overhangs
- Desert and badlands areas develop sandy stone formations and dune grass
- Swamp and river bottoms accumulate silt over waterlogged surfaces
- Savanna and jungle biomes develop earthen clay patches
How to Install Immersive Weathering
- 1.Install Fabric Loader or Minecraft Forge for your chosen Minecraft version (1.18.1 through 1.20.1)
- 2.Download Moonlight Lib from Modrinth, matching your loader and Minecraft version
- 3.Download Immersive Weathering from Modrinth, choosing the Fabric or Forge build
- 4.Place both .jar files in your .minecraft/mods folder
- 5.For multiplayer, install Immersive Weathering and Moonlight Lib on the server as well
Compatibility and Server Setup
Immersive Weathering requires Moonlight Lib on every installation. It pairs naturally with other environment mods: seasonal changes from Serene Seasons interact with the leaf pile system, and Falling Leaves adds particle effects that layer over the ground litter. Most world generation mods are compatible, though some may overlap in block replacement logic for stone and soil types. Per-system config toggles let you disable specific weathering behaviors if conflicts arise.

Questions about this entry.
How do I install Immersive Weathering?
Download Moonlight Lib and Immersive Weathering from Modrinth, then place both .jar files in your .minecraft/mods folder. Use Fabric Loader or Forge for your chosen Minecraft version (1.18.1 through 1.20.1). For a server install, copy both files to the server mods folder as well.
Does Immersive Weathering work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. Immersive Weathering must be installed on both the client and the server. The server generates weathered block variants in new chunks and syncs them to players. A client-only install will not produce in-world weathering effects.
What mods does Immersive Weathering require?
Moonlight Lib is the only required dependency. It is available on Modrinth for both Fabric and Forge. No other library mods are needed for the core weathering features to function.
Does Immersive Weathering work with world generation mods like Terralith?
Immersive Weathering is broadly compatible with world generation mods. Some stone or soil replacement logic may overlap with mods like Terralith or William Wythers depending on biome setup, but the two generally coexist without major issues. Use the per-system config options to disable specific systems if you encounter conflicts.
Which Minecraft version does Immersive Weathering support?
Immersive Weathering supports Minecraft 1.18.1, 1.18.2, 1.19, 1.19.2, and 1.20.1 for both Fabric and Forge. There is no release for Minecraft 1.21 or later versions as of mid-2026. Check the Modrinth page for any updates.
