Better, Faster Happy Ghasts speeds up the Happy Ghast, a mob many players find too slow to travel on, and lets you tune that speed up or down. It ships for Fabric, NeoForge, Forge and Quilt, plus a plain data pack. The mod is required on the multiplayer server, while installing it on a player's side is optional.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.6 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.21.6 to 26.1.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
The mod has one job, the movement speed of the Happy Ghast. The values are configurable, so a survival server can turn the mob into a practical way to cross long distances, or slow it below the default. derexXD built it for a university community world (Derex SMP), and the same files suit any survival setup.
- Faster or slower Happy Ghast speed, your choice.
- Configurable values instead of one fixed boost.
- Mod, data pack and plugin files all listed on the same Modrinth page.
Installing the mod or the data pack
- 1.Mod route: install the loader that matches your Minecraft release. The guides cover Fabric and Forge or NeoForge.
- 2.Put the mod's .jar file in the mods folder of the multiplayer server, or in .minecraft/mods for a local world, then launch with the loader's profile.
- 3.Paper, Spigot, Purpur and Bukkit servers use separate plugin files from the same page.
Trade-offs
The feature set is narrow. It changes Happy Ghast speed and nothing else, so it suits a server that wants one tweak rather than a wider mob overhaul.

Questions about Better, Faster Happy Ghasts.
4 questions
Does Faster Happy Ghast work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, and that is where it belongs. It is required on the server, so a server without it will not change the Happy Ghast. Installing it on each player's side is optional, which makes it easy to run on a survival server with friends or a community world.
Can I use it without a mod loader?
Yes. The project also ships a plain data pack, so you can add it to a world without Fabric, NeoForge, Forge or Quilt. Server owners on Paper, Spigot, Purpur or Bukkit can instead use the separate plugin files listed on the same Modrinth page.
Can it make the Happy Ghast slower?
Yes. The speeds are configurable in both directions. The creator describes the mod as making the Happy Ghast faster or slower, so you can raise it for long trips or lower it below the default.
Does it work with Forge and Quilt?
Yes. Both loaders are supported with a combined data pack and mod file. Those files date from June 2026, while Fabric and NeoForge received a newer release in November 2026, so check the release list for your Minecraft release.
