What Mahou Tsukai works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.2 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Mahou Tsukai is a magic mod for NeoForge, with older Forge builds that have since stopped. It must be installed on both the client and the server. Its spells are built around distinct effects and spectacle rather than systems for crafting spells, and many borrow ideas from Fate/Stay Night and other media, though no knowledge of those is needed.
Loaders and versions
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.1.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after September 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Design goals
- No overlap with other mods or vanilla. There is no magic bonemeal and no magic flint and steel.
- No tiers and no progression, apart from mana. Every spell has its own reason to be used, and even the basic ones stay useful.
- No worldgen beyond a custom dimension. Nothing is gated behind it, so the mod can be added to an existing world.
Configuration
Almost everything is adjustable: mana costs, mana regeneration, sound effect volume, rendering, spell sizes and effects, and how often certain spells tick. A single spell can have around five settings. If a spell lags or does something unwanted, turning its settings down is the intended fix.
Installation
- 1.Install NeoForge for your Minecraft version, following the Forge and NeoForge setup guide.
- 2.Put the mod file in the mods folder of both the client and the server.
- 3.Launch with the NeoForge profile. No other mods are required.
Questions about Mahou Tsukai.
4 questions
Does Mahou Tsukai work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, but it must be installed on both the server and every player's client. It adds no new world generation apart from a custom dimension, which keeps it simple to add to an existing world. The newest NeoForge build lists no dependencies, so no other mods are needed.
Does Mahou Tsukai need any other mods?
No. The newest builds for both NeoForge and Forge list no dependencies, so the mod file and the matching loader are enough. Install the mod in the mods folder and start the loader's profile.
Is Mahou Tsukai still updated for Forge?
No. Forge builds stopped after September 2024, while NeoForge builds continue and reach the newest listed Minecraft release. Anyone starting a new world should use NeoForge.
Can I turn down laggy spells in Mahou Tsukai?
Yes. Nearly everything is configurable, including mana costs, regeneration, sound volume, rendering, spell sizes and how often certain spells tick. A single spell can have about five settings, so a heavy spell can be reduced through its config rather than removed.
