Music Maker is the music maker mod for Java players on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge. It adds music sheets, instruments and other devices for composing and playing music. It must be installed on both sides, so friends can perform together in multiplayer without lag ruining the rhythm, a common problem with note block creations.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.1.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.13.2 to 1.20.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What you can make

The sheet editor is a horizontal, scrolling grid. Sheets can run long enough to hold nearly any song, each note has its own length and volume, and notes can overlap at the same beat. Eight octaves and tempos up to 3000 BPM give real range, though not every instrument suits every octave.

  • Redstone Guitar, Bass Guitar, Oboe and French Horn, plus three more instruments from the Glissando update.
  • Glissando for gradual pitch curves (press G in the sheet screen) and crescendo or decrescendo with shift-drag.
  • MIDI device input in the instrument screen and the sheet editor, plus real-time recording from keyboard or MIDI in later releases.
  • Undo with CTRL+Z, real-life note names on middle click, and a help button listing the controls.
  • Sheets can be exported as text and pasted into another world or host.

Installing on NeoForge and Forge

Music Maker lists no required dependencies on any loader. Put the mod file in the mods folder, matching your loader, and see the Forge and NeoForge setup guide if you need the loader itself.

Past the 1.21 line, every major release gets Fabric support, but only some get NeoForge. For the rest, try the Fabric file on NeoForge with Sinytra Connector and Forgified Fabric API. Plain Forge is not supported there.

Questions about Music Maker.

4 questions

Does Music Maker work in multiplayer?

Yes. The mod is designed for multiplayer and has to be installed on both sides, meaning the players and the host. Playing sheets together avoids the lag that disrupts rhythm in note block creations, so a group of friends can perform in time.

Can I use a MIDI keyboard with Music Maker?

Yes. Connect the device and right click an instrument as normal. Later releases also accept MIDI input in the sheet editor and include a record button for capturing music in real time from a keyboard or a MIDI device.

Does Music Maker work on NeoForge?

Yes, but only for certain releases. For others you can try the Fabric file on NeoForge through Sinytra Connector and Forgified Fabric API. Plain Forge is not supported after the 1.21 line, so check the loader list before installing.

Do I need Fabric API for Music Maker?

No. The newest files on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge list no required dependencies. Only the route of running the Fabric file on NeoForge calls for Sinytra Connector and Forgified Fabric API as optional extras.
