Server Sleep is a Java mod and server sleep datapack from aninus that does one thing. It sets the playersSleepingPercentage gamerule to 50, so the night skips once half of the players online are in bed. It ships for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a plain datapack, and it is required on the server while players joining can leave it uninstalled.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.17 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
Server Sleep sets that threshold to half of the players online. Nothing else is touched, so there are no new items, commands or screens to learn. That narrow scope is the appeal.
The trade-off is the same narrowness. The 50 percent figure is the whole feature, so a server that wants another threshold has to change the gamerule itself.
Installing the mod or the datapack
- 1.Mod route: pick the file for your loader and Minecraft release, drop the .jar into the server's mods folder, then start the server with that loader. The guides for Fabric and Forge or NeoForge cover loader setup.
- 2.Datapack route: take the datapack file from the project's Modrinth datapack listing.
- 3.Players do not need anything installed to benefit. The general steps are in the Java mod install guide.
Questions about Server Sleep.
3 questions
Do players need Server Sleep installed to use it?
No. The mod is required on the server, and the client side is optional. Because it only changes a gamerule, players who join without it still get the 50 percent sleep threshold, since the rule is applied by the server.
Is there a Server Sleep datapack as well as a mod?
Yes. The project ships both mod files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt and a plain datapack. Both apply the same change, setting playersSleepingPercentage to 50, so choose whichever fits how your server is run.
What does Server Sleep actually change?
It changes a single gamerule, playersSleepingPercentage, setting it to 50. That means half of the players online need to be sleeping before the night is skipped. It adds no other features, items or commands.
