Shield Statuses is a Fabric mod from Walksy that paints a color overlay on shields, so you can see at a glance whether a shield is disabled or ready. It is a client-side mod, and it reads the shields of other players as well as your own. The shield statuses mod was ported forward and improved by Walksy, with icon art by SakuraFX.

Loaders and versions

Colors and interpolation

You choose one color for an enabled shield and another for a disabled one. The interpolation option decides how they behave. Switched off, the shield shows two static colors. Switched on, the disabled color fades gradually into the enabled color, which lets you estimate when the shield will come back.

  • Pick separate enabled and disabled colors in the config screen.
  • Turn interpolation on to watch the reactivation countdown as a color fade.
  • Turn it off for a plain two-state read.

Banner texture

You can place any PNG, JPG or animated GIF on the banner area of every shield. The rim, handle and back keep showing the status colors, so the information stays readable while the face carries your own image.

Configuration and server opt-out

The config screen opens through Mod Menu, so install it if you want to change anything. The mod is not supported on the server side, and nothing needs installing there for it to work for you.

The trade-off is scope. This is a narrow visual aid, and because it is client-only it cannot change how shields work, only how you see them. For general install steps, follow the guide on installing mods on Java.

Questions about Shield Statuses.

3 questions

Does Shield Statuses work on multiplayer servers?

It is a client-side mod, so you install it on your own machine and no server install is needed. Server owners can switch off the display of other players' shields with the WalksyLibControl plugin, while players still see their own shield status.

How do I change the shield colors in Shield Statuses?

Open the mod's config screen through Mod Menu. There you set the enabled and disabled colors and choose whether interpolation is on. Interpolation fades the disabled color into the enabled one so you can judge when the shield reactivates.

Can I put my own image on the shield?

Yes. The banner texture option accepts a PNG, JPG or animated GIF and places it on the banner area of every shield. The rim, handle and back of the shield still display the status colors.
