The TrashSlot mod adds a trash slot to your inventory so you can get rid of unwanted items without dropping them on the ground. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, on both the client and the server. It needs the Balm library alongside it.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.17.1 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API and Balm; builds for 1.20.4 to 1.21.4 require Fabric API and Balm (Outdated Versions); builds for 1.17.1 to 1.20.2 require Balm (Outdated Versions).
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.2 to 26.3. The newest build requires Balm; builds for 1.20.2 need no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.17.1 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires Balm.

What the trash slot does

Drop an item into the slot and it is deleted. The slot holds the last item you trashed, so a mistake is fixed by taking it back out. Trash another item and the previous one is gone for good.

  • Drag the slot with the mouse cursor to place it where you want it.
  • Press T to toggle it. It can be enabled or disabled in nearly every screen.
  • Press Delete to delete the item under the cursor.
  • Press Shift+Delete to delete every item of the same type as the one under the cursor.

Installing TrashSlot

Pick the file for your loader and game version, then put it and Balm in the mods folder. If you have not set up a loader yet, the guides for Fabric and Forge and NeoForge cover it. Fabric builds for recent versions also need Fabric API.

On a multiplayer setup the server needs the mod. It is optional on clients, so only players who want the trash slot have to install it.

Questions about TrashSlot.

4 questions

How do I get my trash slot back if it disappeared?

The slot can be switched off, and the T key toggles it. Press T on the inventory screen to bring it back. You can also drag it to a new position with the mouse, since it can be moved on nearly every screen where it appears.

Does TrashSlot work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The files are tagged for both client and server. The server needs the mod installed, while clients are optional. Only players who want the trash slot need to add it themselves, along with the required Balm library.

Can I recover an item I trashed by mistake?

Yes, but only the last one. The slot keeps the most recently deleted item, and you can take it back out. Once you trash something else, the earlier item is replaced and cannot be recovered.

Which loaders does TrashSlot support?

It supports Fabric, NeoForge and Forge for current Minecraft Java releases. The newest build on each loader requires Balm, and the newest Fabric build also requires Fabric API. Releases from before 1.17.1 are no longer updated.
