TslatEntityStatus

TES shows entity health, armour, type alignments and potion effects through a HUD, overhead displays and damage particles. Nearly everything is configurable.

TslatEntityStatus (TES) is a damage-indicator mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge that puts entity health and other status details into the world. Tslat built it for Java Edition, and it runs on the client with the server side optional. The tslatentitystatus mod pairs a HUD with overhead displays and pop-off damage particles, so every hit tells you something.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API and MidnightLib, optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.21.3 to 26.3 require Fabric API and Forge Config API Port; some builds for 1.21.1 to 26.3 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.21.1 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.18 to 1.20.2 need no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What TES shows

Status information appears in three places, and each can be switched on or off on its own.

  • A HUD-style entity status interface.
  • An in-world overhead status display above the entity.
  • Damage and healing particles, coloured by team on 1.20 and newer.
  • Status elements for name, health, armour and toughness, type alignments (fire immunity, melee, ranged and so on) and potion effect icons.

Configuration

Almost everything is adjustable in the config. You choose how and when the HUDs appear, the render style of the health bars, the size and opacity of the on-screen and in-world displays, and the default colours of damage and healing particles. Automated features can be tuned to balance performance. Other mods can hook into TES through a public API to add their own HUD elements, particles and rendering styles.

Client and server use

Install it like any Java mod by placing the file for your loader in the mods folder (the install guide covers the steps).

The trade-off is support. Tslat only intends to target 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.19.3 onward, and other ports depend on someone submitting a pull request.

Questions about TslatEntityStatus.

4 questions

Does TslatEntityStatus need to be installed on the server?

No, the mod is almost entirely client-side, so health bars, the HUD and damage particles work without it on the server. The exception is potion effect icons, which only appear when the server also runs TES and has potion icons enabled in its config.

Which loaders does TslatEntityStatus support?

It has builds for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. A build only runs on the loader it was made for, so pick the file that matches your loader and your Minecraft release, then place it in the mods folder.

Can I choose which information TES displays?

Yes. Each status element and each feature can be toggled individually. You can also change the health bar render style, HUD size and opacity, when the HUDs show, and the colours of damage and healing particles.

Can other mods use TES?

Yes. TES ships a public API that lets other mods trigger their own particles, add HUD elements, and modify or remove built-in ones. Its config options can also be read from elsewhere, and the classes and methods are documented for developers.
