Custom Join Messages is a custom join messages plugin for Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot servers. It sends first-join, join and quit messages, publicly or privately, and lets you vary them by permission, world and player count. It runs on the server only, so players install nothing.
Server software and versions
- Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.9 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Message types and formatting
Every message can go out through chat, titles, action bars, boss bars and sounds. Text accepts PlaceholderAPI placeholders, legacy color codes, MineDown and MiniMessage, plus HEX colors. Gradients are automatic with MineDown or MiniMessage, and chat lines can carry hover and click actions with those two formatters.
Who sees what
- Permission-based messages give different groups of players different text.
- World-based messages treat one server with several worlds as separate servers, using groups you define.
- Conditions limit a message by radius or by minimum and maximum online players.
- Players can toggle which messages they receive.
- AuthMe integration holds messages until a player has authenticated.
- Jail integration skips jailed players, and vanish integration sends messages when someone vanishes or unvanishes. Most jail and vanish plugins are supported.
Installation
- 1.Put the plugin file in the plugins folder, as covered in how to install plugins on a Minecraft server.
- 2.Restart the server so the plugin loads.
- 3.Set up messages, permissions and conditions using the project wiki, which holds all the documentation.
The trade-off is depth. The feature set is broad, so expect to spend time on the wiki before the permission and world rules fit your server. The plugin also reports anonymous usage data through bStats, which you can switch off in plugins/bStats/config.yml.
Questions about Custom Join Messages.
4 questions
Does Custom Join Messages work on Folia?
Yes. Folia is one of the four server programs the plugin is built for, alongside Paper, Purpur and Spigot. The same plugin file goes in the plugins folder on each of them, and the server needs a restart before it loads.
Do players need to install anything for custom join messages?
No. The plugin is server-side only. Players join with a normal setup, and the titles, chat lines, action bars, boss bars and sounds are all sent from the server when someone joins or quits.
Can I use MiniMessage formatting on Spigot?
No. MiniMessage support is limited to Paper. On Spigot, format messages with legacy color codes or MineDown instead. MineDown also supports HEX colors, gradients, and hover and click actions in chat messages.
Can different players see different join messages?
Yes. Messages can be tied to permissions, so each group gets its own text. They can also depend on the world, a radius, or the number of players online, and players can choose which messages they receive.
