Vane is a Minecraft server plugin suite that adds immersive, lore-friendly features to vanilla play. It targets Paper and Purpur, with a separate module for the Velocity proxy, and Waterfall support has ended. Everything runs on the server side, so players need nothing installed.
Server software and versions
- Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally PacketEvents, Dynmap® and BlueMap.
- Velocity: Minecraft 1.19.3 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally PacketEvents, Dynmap® and BlueMap.
- Waterfall: Minecraft 1.19.2 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after December 2023. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Dynmap® and BlueMap.
What vane adds
Vane augments the classic experience instead of replacing it. Players are not meant to notice which features came from the plugin.
- Several carefully designed custom items.
- Custom enchantments for a selection of tools, including the elytra.
- Expensive portals built for long-distance travel, supporting all entities including minecarts.
- A simple region system for grief protection.
- Map integration with BlueMap, Dynmap and Pl3xMap.
- Quality-of-life and gameplay tweaks, each of which can be disabled or configured.
Installing vane
Vane ships as separate plugin files, one per module, and an all-plugins zip bundles them. New to plugins? The plugin installation guide covers the basics.
- 1.Pick the modules you want, or take the all-plugins zip.
- 2.Put the files in the plugins folder of a Paper or Purpur server running a matching Minecraft release.
- 3.Restart the server.
Configuration and trade-offs
Every feature can be switched off or tuned, and the wiki holds the full feature overview and FAQ. The cost of that breadth is a long list of options to review before players join. Vane is also required on the server, so it suits owners who want one suite instead of many small plugins.
Questions about Vane.
4 questions
How do I install vane?
Place the plugin files for the modules you want into the plugins folder of a Paper or Purpur server, then restart it. Make sure the release you pick matches your Minecraft release. An all-plugins zip bundles every module if you would rather not fetch each file by hand.
Do players need to install anything for vane?
No. Vane is a server-side plugin, and the Modrinth listing marks the client side as unsupported while requiring it on the server. Players do not install server plugins. They join with a normal launcher, and the server owner installs the modules.
Does vane work on Velocity?
Yes, through a separate vane-velocity plugin built for the Velocity proxy. It is not a classical server plugin, and the author advises using it only if you know what you are doing. Paper and Purpur servers use the regular modules instead.
Does vane work with map plugins?
Yes. Vane integrates with BlueMap, Dynmap and Pl3xMap, so its features can show up on your web map. These integrations are optional, and the plugin needs none of them to run.
