Enhanced Boss Bars is a Java Edition resource pack that replaces the plain, gray-segmented vanilla boss health bar with a distinct bar design for every boss it recognizes. It covers the Ender Dragon and Wither out of the box, then adds matching bars for boss mobs from several popular mods, so a modded boss fight looks as distinct as it feels once the matching mod is installed alongside the pack.

What changes visually

  • Vanilla bosses: the Ender Dragon and the Wither each get a redesigned bar in place of the default segmented gray bar.
  • Alex's Mobs: the Void Worm, the End boss that spawns after the Ender Dragon is defeated, gets a matching custom bar.
  • Twilight Forest: the Naga, Alpha Yeti, Snow Queen, and Ur Ghast bosses each get their own bar design.
  • Mowzie's Mobs: the Ferrous Wroughtnaut and Frostmaw bosses are covered.
  • L_Ender's Cataclysm: the Netherite Monstrosity, Ignis, and Ender Guardian bosses are covered.
  • Bosses of Mass Destruction: the Obsidilith, Night Lich, and Void Blossom bosses each get a themed bar.
  • A few additional boss mobs from other mods, including the standalone Wither Storm mod, are covered as well.

Installation

  1. 1.Download the build matching your Minecraft version from the Enhanced Boss Bars project page on Modrinth.
  2. 2.Open the Minecraft directory and place the downloaded file in the resourcepacks folder, without unzipping it.
  3. 3.Launch Minecraft, open Options, then Resource Packs, and move Enhanced Boss Bars into the active list.
  4. 4.Load into a world and fight the Ender Dragon, Wither, or any covered mod boss to see the new bar.

Compatibility with modded bosses

The mod-specific bars only appear when the matching boss mod is installed in the same instance. Without that mod, the pack simply has nothing to apply the extra bar designs to, so it is safe to install alongside any modpack without causing conflicts. Enhanced Boss Bars is a client-side visual pack, so a server does not need it installed, and players can enable it locally without affecting anyone else on a multiplayer server.

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install Enhanced Boss Bars?

Download the build for your Minecraft version from the Enhanced Boss Bars project page on Modrinth, place the file in the resourcepacks folder inside the Minecraft directory, then enable it from Options, Resource Packs before loading a world.

  • Does Enhanced Boss Bars work with modded bosses?

Yes. Beyond the vanilla Ender Dragon and Wither, it recognizes boss mobs from mods such as Alex's Mobs, Twilight Forest, Mowzie's Mobs, L_Ender's Cataclysm, and Bosses of Mass Destruction, but only when the matching mod is installed alongside it.

  • Is Enhanced Boss Bars safe on multiplayer servers?

Yes. It is a client-side visual pack, so the server does not need it installed. A player can enable it locally without affecting other players or requiring any server-side changes.

  • Which Minecraft version does Enhanced Boss Bars support?

The pack ships separate builds across releases from 1.16 through 1.21.1. Download the build listed for your exact Minecraft version rather than assuming one file covers every release, since a few minor versions do not have a matching build.

  • Do I need OptiFine to use Enhanced Boss Bars?

No. It only replaces vanilla boss bar textures and GUI elements, so it works on the base game without OptiFine, Iris, or any other loader-side dependency.
