Fluffy Fancy Clouds is a Java Edition resource pack that turns flat vanilla clouds into softer, denser, fluffier ones using core shaders. It needs no mods and runs on the player's side only, which makes it a light option for anyone searching for fluffy fancy clouds shaders without swapping in a full shader pack.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.6 to 26.2.

What changes visually

Water_Puddle uses a simple gradient and blurring technique on the cloud layer.

The pack edits three vanilla core shader files, rendertype_clouds.vsh, rendertype_clouds.fsh and transparency.fsh, and adds one new file, cloudblur.fsh.

How to install Fluffy Fancy Clouds

  1. 1.Put the pack's .zip in the resourcepacks folder, which you can open from Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder.
  2. 2.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
  3. 3.Set clouds to Fancy. The pack requires it.
  4. 4.Optionally enable Improved Transparency to get the full effect.

If you have never loaded a pack by hand, the resource pack install guide covers the folder and the selection screen.

Known limitations

The pack will likely be incompatible with Iris shaderpacks, and with any resource pack that alters vanilla clouds or transparency.fsh. Pick one cloud pack, and do not stack it with a shader pack. It is also Java only, with no Bedrock release.

Water_Puddle is also working on a downport for older releases, so the supported range may widen later.

Questions about Fluffy Fancy Clouds.

4 questions

Does Fluffy Fancy Clouds need any mods?

No. The pack works through vanilla core shaders, so it needs no mods. You only have to set clouds to Fancy, and you can optionally enable Improved Transparency for the full effect. It is client-side only and is not supported on servers.

Does Fluffy Fancy Clouds work with Iris shaders?

It will likely be incompatible with Iris shaderpacks. It also clashes with any resource pack that changes vanilla clouds or the transparency.fsh file. The pack itself needs no mods, only Fancy clouds turned on, with Improved Transparency as an optional extra for the full effect.

Is Fluffy Fancy Clouds available for Bedrock?

No. It is a Java Edition resource pack that relies on Java core shader files such as rendertype_clouds.fsh. Bedrock uses a different pack format, and the pack lists no Bedrock release.

Why do clouds look wrong on Minecraft 26.2?

Check that you are still using OpenGL rendering. Water_Puddle advises this for anyone who runs into issues on 26.2, and the pack has not been ported to Vulkan yet. Also confirm that clouds are set to Fancy, since the pack requires it, and that no other resource pack alters the clouds.
