Grindstone is a shader pack for Java that adds anti-aliasing and sharpening to the rendered picture.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 26.3.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.1.2. The newest build requires Iris Shaders.
What it does
The current 2.0 line uses the end-of-frame post effect added in 26.3 Snapshot 3. It applies a modified Enhanced Subpixel Morphological Antialiasing 1x, then a modified FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening 1.2. Modrinth tags the pack vanilla-like and potato.
Install and configure
- 1.Put the .zip in the resourcepacks folder (Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder).
- 2.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
- 3.Builds that run as an Iris shader pack need Iris Shaders installed first.
Every option lives in assets/grindstone/shaders/include/config.glsl inside the pack. Edit it with a text editor, then reload the pack to apply the change. New to packs? The resource pack install guide covers the folder steps in more detail.
Older releases
Releases before 2.0 were named SMAA-MC and are Iris shader packs, not vanilla resource packs. They implement SMAA 1x only, with no sharpening, and re-create vanilla-like rendering using code from Base-460C. They need an Iris with COMPUTE_SHADERS, CUSTOM_IMAGES and ENTITY_TRANSLUCENT support, plus drivers with GLSL 4.60.8 or newer. That is a stricter driver bar than the 2.0 line, and the trade-off for older setups.

Is the Grindstone shader the same as the grindstone block?
No. This Grindstone is an anti-aliasing and sharpening pack by Luracasmus, previously called SMAA-MC.
Does Grindstone need Iris?
Only on older releases. The newest build for 26.3 is a plain vanilla resource pack that requires nothing else. The builds covering 1.20.1 to 26.1.2 are Iris shader packs, so Iris Shaders must be installed for them.
Why does Grindstone fail to load?
The 2.0 line needs GLSL 4.40, and older releases need GLSL 4.60.8 or newer. Updating your graphics drivers usually fixes it.
Is Grindstone available for Bedrock?
No. Grindstone is published for Java only, and it is a player-side pack. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so it cannot load this one.
