Hardcore Hearts

A tiny 16x texture swap that turns the standard health icons into hardcore hearts in every normal world. It needs no mod and runs on the player's side only.

Hardcore Hearts is a 16x resource pack for Java that makes vanilla hearts look like hardcore hearts, so ordinary worlds carry the same tense health bar. It is a pure texture change. No mod, loader or library is involved, and only the player's own install uses it.

Modrinth files it under cursed, gui and utility, and its own tagline promises to add anxiety to every world. That is the whole pitch: one familiar icon, changed, in worlds that never asked for it.

Nothing else is listed as changed, so treat it as a hearts-only swap that leaves the rest of your interface alone.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.6.1 to 26.3.

How to install Hardcore Hearts

  1. 1.In Options > Resource Packs, choose Open Pack Folder and drop the .zip into the resourcepacks folder.
  2. 2.Load a regular world and check the health bar.

If the pack screen shows an incompatibility warning, the pack can still load. Nothing else needs installing alongside it.

Known limitations

This is a very small pack. The creator calls it too small for a full page and asks for issues and requests by email at [email protected]. It changes the look of the hearts only, so the hardcore rules themselves do not apply to your world. Its Modrinth page carries little text, so there is no list of covered assets beyond the hearts.

Modrinth shows 130 followers. First published in January 2023, it was last updated on 2026-09-15.

Questions about Hardcore Hearts.

3 questions

How do I install Hardcore Hearts?

Put the pack's .zip in your resourcepacks folder, which you can reach through Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder. Then move Hardcore Hearts to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. If the pack screen shows an incompatibility warning, the pack can still load.

Does Hardcore Hearts need a mod or loader?

No. It is a plain 16x resource pack, and Modrinth lists no required dependencies for any of its releases. Put the .zip in your resourcepacks folder and move it to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. It is Java only and needs no loader.

Is Hardcore Hearts available for Bedrock?

No. It is a Java resource pack hosted on Modrinth, which carries Java content, and Bedrock packs use a different format. Players on Bedrock would need a separate pack made for that format.
