Modernity is a vanilla-like resource pack that backports modern textures to legacy Java releases. If you play 1.12.2 or older and want blocks and items to look like a recent release, this is the pack for that job. It is for Java only and runs on the player's side; dedicated hosts do not support it.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.6.1 to 1.12.2.
What changes visually
The pack brings textures from later vanilla releases back to old ones, so an aging install stops looking dated. It also adapts art for many mods, either to restyle their nether ores in the modern look or to backport mod textures that appeared after 1.12. The full mod list is not published. Try the pack with your own modset and see what it covers.
Scope and the Adjunct split
The pack now concentrates on vanilla textures to keep the file size down. Support for mod textures moved to a companion pack, Modernity Adjunct. The creator will not add wholesale support for new mods. A suggested mod gets a check of its nether ore blocks, and nothing more unless AstroTibs has a personal interest in it.
- Backports modern vanilla textures to legacy releases.
- Updates nether ores for many mods.
- Needs no other mod or library.
- Extra textures are welcome if you send updated art and name the release it targets.
How to install Modernity
Download the zip from Modrinth and place it in the resourcepacks folder, which you can reach through Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder. Then move it to the Selected side of the screen. The full steps are in the resource pack install guide. A pack built for another release can still load, but it shows an incompatibility warning.
Known limitations
The trade-off is scope. Mod coverage is partial and no longer growing, and mod textures now live in a separate pack. The pack is also tied to 1.12.2 and older, so it does nothing for current releases.
Questions about Modernity.
4 questions
Does Modernity work on Bedrock?
No. Modernity is a Java resource pack. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so this download will not load there. The pack targets legacy Java releases from 1.6.1 to 1.12.2.
Does Modernity include mod textures?
Only partly. It adapts nether ores and backports some post-1.12 art for many mods, but the creator no longer adds wholesale mod support. Mod textures were split into a companion pack called Modernity Adjunct.
How do I install the Modernity resource pack?
Place the downloaded zip in the resourcepacks folder, found through Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder. Then move Modernity to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. No extra mod is needed.
Does Modernity need OptiFine or another mod?
No. The newest builds list no required dependencies. It is a plain resource pack that works on its own, though it is built for releases up to 1.12.2.
