RAY's 3D Rails

RAY's 3D Rails replaces Minecraft's flat rail textures with real 3D block and item models, adding visible depth to straight, curved, powered, and detector rails. It's a client-side resource pack for Java Edition that covers vanilla rails on its own and layers matching 3D models onto rails from more than a dozen compatible mods once those mods are installed. The pack changes visuals only, it never adds new rail types or gameplay mechanics of its own.

Supported mods and rail variants

Vanilla rails get the 3D treatment with no extra setup. Installing one of the mods below adds matching 3D models for that mod's own rail blocks, and several ship LabPBR-ready normal and specular maps for shader users.

How to install RAY's 3D Rails

1. 1.Download the .zip file from Modrinth or CurseForge. Do not unzip it.
2. 2.Open Minecraft Java Edition and go to Options, then Resource Packs.
3. 3.Click Open Pack Folder and drop the .zip into the resourcepacks folder.
4. 4.Back in Minecraft, move RAY's 3D Rails from Available to Selected, then click Done.

Shader support

RAY's 3D Rails has shipped LabPBR-ready textures since version 3.0, so the added geometry keeps its normal and specular maps under a shader pack that reads LabPBR materials, such as Complementary or BSL, through Iris or OptiFine. Rails without a LabPBR variant listed above still render as plain 3D geometry under shaders, just without the extra lighting response.

Known limitations

The pack only swaps existing rail models. It doesn't add new rail types, redstone behavior, or minecart mechanics of its own, and a mod's rails only pick up the 3D treatment once that mod is installed alongside the pack. Three of the compatible mods, Modern Minecarts, More Minecarts and Rails, and Xannosz's Better Minecarts, are CurseForge-only projects rather than Modrinth dependencies, so Modrinth's own compatibility list won't show them even though the creator documents support for all three.
