RAY's 3D Ladders applied to a plain vanilla ladder, showing the raised rung model

RAY's 3D Ladders is a Java Edition resource pack that replaces the flat vanilla ladder texture with a raised, three-dimensional model, and adds LabPBR normal and specular maps so the new geometry catches shader lighting too. It needs no OptiFine, CIT, or other mod, and the current build reaches the year.drop 26.3 release.

Works standalone, with optional mod compatibility

The pack reskins vanilla ladders on its own. It also ships matching variant textures for the ladder-style blocks in 13 other mods, so installing one of them alongside the pack swaps that mod's ladder to match automatically. It pairs well with other texture packs too, such as Bare Bones, which does not touch ladder models on its own.

Shader support through LabPBR

Every ladder model in the pack carries LabPBR normal and specular maps, a texture standard that PBR-capable shader packs read for extra depth and reflections. Complementary, BSL, and other LabPBR-compatible shaders will light the raised geometry correctly. Without a shader pack installed, the 3D model and base textures still render, just without the extra lighting detail.

How to install RAY's 3D Ladders

Supported Minecraft versions

The current release, build 2.2 published in September 2026, lists support from 1.13 through the year.drop 26.3 release, Minecraft's now-quarterly version scheme. Modrinth ships this as one universal download rather than separate builds per version, so the same file covers that whole range.

Questions about RAY's 3D Ladders.

5 questions

Does RAY's 3D Ladders need any mods installed?

No. It reskins vanilla ladders on its own. Installing one of the 13 mods it also covers, such as Create or Quark, additionally swaps that mod's ladder-style block to match, but none of them are required for the pack to work.

Does RAY's 3D Ladders work with shaders?

Yes. Every ladder model carries LabPBR normal and specular maps, which shader packs that read LabPBR, such as Complementary or BSL, use to light the raised geometry. Without a shader pack installed, the 3D model still renders, just without the extra lighting detail.

Which Minecraft version does RAY's 3D Ladders support?

The current build, 2.2, lists support from 1.13 through the year.drop 26.3 release as one universal download. Modrinth does not publish separate builds per version for this pack, so the same file works across that whole range.

Is RAY's 3D Ladders available for Bedrock Edition?

No. It is a Java Edition-only resource pack. Neither its Modrinth page nor its GitHub repository lists a Bedrock release.

How do I install RAY's 3D Ladders?

Download the .zip file from the Modrinth page, drop it into the game's resourcepacks folder without extracting it, then enable it from Options, then Resource Packs, in Minecraft. No OptiFine or other loader is required.
