Visible Shield Cooldown

A vanilla-style Java resource pack that tints your shield red while it is disabled and fades it back to normal as the cooldown ends. Optional settings add green and yellow states.

Visible Shield Cooldown is a Java resource pack by Bluebird that makes a disabled shield obvious at a glance. When your shield is on cooldown, it turns red and gradually fades back to normal. It is the visible shield cooldown cue without a mod, and it works in vanilla.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.21.4 to 26.3. The newest build optionally uses Respackopts.

What changes visually

While the shield is on cooldown it takes on a red tint that loses strength as the cooldown runs down, so you can judge when blocking is safe again without counting seconds.

It is a narrow tweak, closer to a combat readout than a retexture. It suits players who already like the look of vanilla and only want the missing information.

Options through Respackopts

The newest release supports Respackopts. It is optional, and the default red behaviour works without it. With it installed you get three toggles:

  • Red fade off: the shield stays fully red instead of becoming less red as the cooldown ends.
  • Green when ready: the shield turns green once you can use it again.
  • Yellow for invisible cooldown: the shield turns yellow when you start blocking but cannot stop an attack.

Questions about Visible Shield Cooldown.

4 questions

Does Visible Shield Cooldown need any mods?

No. The pack works in vanilla from 1.21.4 upward. The newest release supports Respackopts as an optional extra, which is where the three options come from: turning off the red fade, showing green when the shield is ready, and showing yellow during an invisible cooldown.

Can I see other players' shield cooldowns with this pack?

No. It only shows the status of your own shield. You cannot see other people's cooldowns.

Is Visible Shield Cooldown available for Bedrock?

No. It is a Java resource pack hosted on Modrinth, and Bedrock uses a different pack format. Nothing on the page points to a Bedrock release.

How do I install Visible Shield Cooldown?

Place the downloaded .zip in your resourcepacks folder, which you can open from Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder. Then move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen and confirm.
