Small Held Items

Bluebird's pack scales down the model of everything you hold, blocks and tools included, so your hand covers less of the screen. It runs on the player side only and needs no other mods.

Small Held Items is a resource pack for Java that shrinks the model of every item and block in your hand, freeing up screen space in first person. It runs on the player side only and asks for no other mods. It does what the item size option in Badlion and similar mods does, without installing any of them.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.8 to 26.3.

What changes visually

Every held model gets smaller, from swords and pickaxes to full blocks.

The pack also edits a few models to address the issues described in MC-114274. The blocks it fixes are glazed terracotta and chiseled bookshelf. Heads and skulls face toward you when held, as they did before 1.9.

How to install Small Held Items

  1. 1.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Open Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the file in.
  3. 3.Move Small Held Items to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.

A pack built for another release can still load but shows an incompatibility warning. Our guide to installing resource packs covers the folder steps in more detail.

Known limitations

It is Java only and the project links no public source code.

Questions about Small Held Items.

5 questions

How do I install Small Held Items?

Put the pack's .zip into your resourcepacks folder, which you can open from Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder. Then move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. Expect an incompatibility warning if the pack targets a different release than the one you are running.

Does Small Held Items need any mods?

No. The newest release requires nothing else. It is a plain resource pack, and its purpose is to give you the smaller item effect that some mods provide, without installing them. It runs on the player side only and has no dependencies listed for any release.

Can I use Small Held Items on Bedrock?

No. It is a Java resource pack and Bedrock uses a different pack format. Nothing in the pack covers Bedrock, so Bedrock players need to look for a separate pack.

Does Small Held Items work in multiplayer?

Small Held Items is client required and server unsupported, so you install it on the player side only. Put the .zip in your resourcepacks folder and move it to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. The pack lists no server component, and nothing in it covers server setups.

Is there a small held items pack for 1.8.9 or 1.12.2?

Yes. Extra 1.8.9 and 1.12.2 releases are listed on the Modrinth page. The 1.8.9 release is for players who do not want to download the mods that shrink held items. The main pack also lists support starting at 1.8, so pick the release that matches your setup.
